Playing for national championship is the goal, at a minimum to win the Big 12. I don't need someone who jumps around and screams, but I need someone who wants to be here, embraces tradition, recruits and builds the fan base. He is more than capable of doing the job. Not saying he is the guy but should be on the list. We did a lot worse for the past 7 years.

If we find a coach that can win that happens to jump around and scream then we do need him.

Right. Not about the screaming and jumping around, it's about the winning.

Right. Just saying that we should not be against someone that is animated. I also don't think the team nor the fans need an emotionless coach.

We are going to hear a whole bunch of names like this in the next 8 weeks. Think of this announcement about "Heupel is the leading candidate" as a trial balloon. This could come from either the school or his agent. They can judge the fan reaction to the news.

Heupel should be on the list. He is qualified.

Buechele, any relation to Steve Buechele of the Rangers?

I doubt they care at all about the fan reaction. They had best be looking for a good fit that can recruit, hire those that recruit, coach, and want to be here. Fan response will come with results.

Possibly... That would go with SMU's track record. But, at the same time, the audience is also all of the college football analysts. Having these guys go against the hire could damage the program even more. Another thought is that Heupel's agent wants to get him a raise at OU ("Look, he could take the SMU job for big money, but he wants to stay here and will do it for a $100k raise").

Shane Buechele will have options. He already has offers from TCU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Texas, as well as Kentucky. Baylor, Stanford and Texas A&M also are showing interest in the 6-foot-1, 173-pound quarterback who just finished his sophomore year.

His resume pales in comparison to Bennett. What has he done? Totally unproven. This cannot be for real. Must be AD disinformation to keep things quiet as requested by Hart.

Yup! Wouldn't want a non emotional coach like former cowboy coach Tom Landry. He didn't show much emotion on the field but his guy's seemed to know when they were on his wrong side. Man what a class act'

His "raise" would be a lot more than a 100k if he were to get the SMU gig. His agent better be asking OU for a hell of a lot more than that.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
