W-Soccer: SMU vs. BYU

Postby DanFreibergerForHeisman » Fri Sep 26, 2014 7:27 am

SMU (5-5-0, 1-0-0) faces BYU (5-3-2) Saturday night at Westcott Field (7pm).

The Mustangs have won two straight, and four of five, including a conference win Thursday night at Houston.

Brigham Young is on a roll, winning four straight and outscoring their opponents 12-2 in those games, including a 4-1 win at Denver Thursday night.

This will be the final non-conference game for the Mustangs this season.

Also, it's a great sign for SMU to schedule this game. Other than some of the decent regional teams (Ok. St., Missouri, Baylor before people figured them out), this is the biggest name to visit Westcott since Portland in 2009.

Go Mustangs!!

Two hours until gametime!

Hopefully the night will end on a high note for SMU fans.

I have the utmost respect for BYU, but I must admit I have not abstained from alcohol today...

It should be a great game tonight!

SMU kept it tight for most of the game, but BYU ended up with a 3-0 win (one on a ridiculous PK call).

As if 2014 couldn't get any more crazy, Lissi Lonsberry apparently injured her hand this week and fourth-string keeper Katie Anne Head played tonight.

Back to American play next weekend at UCF and USF.

Claire Oates was named American rookie of the week!

SMU has had an impressive lineup of freshmen earning minutes for the Mustangs this season. Freshmen Claire Oates has been recognized as Rookie of the Week, a week after teammate Lauren Guerra received the award. Oates recorded a hat trick in SMU's 3-2 win over Houston. Each of her three goals for the Mustangs came inside the first fifteen minutes of action. Against BYU on Saturday, Oates put up three shots, leading her team for the day. In both contests, she played all 90 minutes.
