I'd love to pile on but I could not keep it to just one sport. There are a lot of problems.

Very similar pitch by Franklin when he got to Vandy: Great academic institution (tout it, don't run away from it), great city, immediate playing time.

Worked pretty well.

Vandy also has the Peabody school that can hide players that are academic risks. You don't tout it so much that you run somewhat marginal students away. You selectively tout it. They key is playing time, TV exposure, and getting players to the NFL. That is what Franklin did.

I sat in the stands in Nashville and listened to Franklins pitch in person. He mentioned nothing about getting players to the NFL. It was all about Vandy as an elite institution, Nashville as a great Metropolitan city (actually made fun of 'those college towns out in the cornfields'), and the opportunity for immediate playing time. Also used the SEC card and said the rest of the conferences couldn't even compare. The guy is a heck of a salesman.

As I was told by an SMU coach that conference affiliation helps more than anything. He that claimed not being in a BCS conference is what hurt the most.

We were in a BCS conference last year. Now there is no BCS.
Though it is very difficult to recruit against P5 conferences, it's not impossible and there are plenty of great players in the region to take a swing at.

For one year only. They said that everyone knew that it was not going to be a major conference but for 1 year anyway.

Hey...coaching and recruiting at a G5 school is hard work. That's why you get paid 100k to several million to do it here.

Which coach was that cause I not sure any of them recruited. Was it the one who texted out the offer where the kid did had to learn it from his coach.

Ur coach buddy was going to say that since he and the rest of the staff just sat on their [deleted] and watched video that got sent to them.

Of course it is difficult to recruit against P5 but OLeary managed to do it. It helps somewhat if you try to recruit rather than complain how bad you have it or that you want to play in the spring.

Let's alter that pitch a little: "You are a key prospect. Son, here's $10,000 in $100 bills. We'd like to to come to our great institution and play here. This is just a sample of what you can get here. This is legal to do now, per the NCAA, and this will get us in a P5 conference real soon."

Hahahahahhaha. "I was told by a (lazy, pathetic, POS, Juneses zombie crony, incompetent wannabe) SMU coach..........blah, blah, blah.

and what do we get from the ever reliable member of the Juneses staff, yes folks, more EXCUSES! We have a familiar winner.

We all realize that those monthly stipend payments are just going to be the baseline, right?!? You really don't think P5 schools are going to suddenly stop their boosters from paying players now that everyone gets a little bit? The only guarantee is that the first school that gets really hit for paying players any extra will be a small private school...you know...just to show the big bosses mean business.

Recruiting is relative to your competition. We'll see how we match up with the AAC
