The Elephant In The Room We Aren't Talking About

The players really wanted to care but they all had personal issues forcing them to give up and also they already felt that the mission had been accomplished.

Meeting rooms weren't big enough. Not even the strip club locker room could get them to care.

That said, they are at SMU getting a free education to give the best effort they possibly can regardless of the opponent, coach, or whatever else is going on around them. I saw an awful lot of give up in that second half on the field. We may need a Charlie Strong-esque type of purge here. Not so much in that we have bad kids but that we've got some kids who are just here happy to take the scholarship and just get by. Hopefully the new coaching staff can instill some sort of passion and desire b/c right now I see a lot of kids who aren't really that affected by being the worst college football team in America.

I think when Rydel got a schollie it was pretty much for graduation unless he didn't meet grades :!: :!: :!:

Really cannot figure out if I should be offended or say thank you.

Not offended :!:

If you somehow got demoted down to the Rudy team, and didn't quit then maybe you would
understand the movie better :?:

Bruh...it's a [deleted] rivalry game fellas!!! 56-0? The worst thing is that they don't even care they lost! (embarrassed alumni tweet).

There was a lot of quit on the field in the second half. A lot. Whoever the next coach is I hope he watches the game film of these first four games to see who is/isn't giving their all for the team. There were some out there that were truly playing hard (Zach Wood, Krstich, DJ) but I saw a lot of quitters on that field.

Such nonsense. Exactly what quit did you specifically see on that field?

And to Tank Reed, if anyone has quit or doesn't care, it is primarily because of the culture created by June and his incompetent leadership. Wake up.

this is not a fun board any more. Time to skip the next few weeks until we get to a happier place.

Seriously. You'd think there would be a little added motivation right there if you plan on being here after this season. I saw an awful lot of walking to the sidelines, no emotion, no energy, and really no problem with getting blown out at all. Kids were laughing and taking pictures with family members after the game was over. How about you get your asses in the locker room and at least give us the illusion that you remotely care.

Such a stupid post. The only people on the planet that give a sh*t about these kids right now are their families and you're gonna complain on this board about any of them taking pictures with their family members after the game? I personally talked to parents who made the trip to this game all the way from Seattle to support their son and the team. Because they take a photo on the field after the game you object to this. Parents making the trip from Houston, or wherever else, don't have the right to support their son because you don't like it?

Please think before you make such non-sensical comments. Or better yet, STFU

Like I said several guys that were out there in the second half were just going through the motions and the attitude and vibe on the sidelines was certainly not one of being engaged and giving great effort. Nothing says we lost 56-0 like spending the following half hour posing for pictures and yucking it up with family/friends. The team, like its coach, has a lot of quit in it.

Relax Chet. Its just football. Like I said I honestly can deflect some of the blame here to a clear lack of leadership. Their head coach quit on them two games into the season and by halftime of the first game I think they all have come to the brutal realization that they are, collectively, an awful team. That's tough on the psyche of a kid. That said, the obligation of every student athlete is to give maximum effort at all times. 43-0 (not counting the Hail Mary) and 56-0 is pathetic. Some of this is on them. Not all but certainly some.

As to the parents traveling to see their kids play I'm thrilled that we have engaged family members. Hell I drug my wife (then girlfriend) to freaking Pullman, WA to watch us throw away a game in the middle of nowhere. I understand the sacrifice. That said, after a fourth straight drilling maybe there should be a little bit of disappointment displayed on the sidelines. At least for a few minutes. I saw guys laughing on the sidelines in the fourth quarter and looking back up in the stands at mom and dad. That's a joke. If you were at the game and stayed through the end we all saw the same thing. I just don't see many kids who are upset with being the worst team in America. Seems to me they are more than happy with the free ride and zero expectations.

2 of the 3 players that you single out above as 'truly playing hard', Zach Wood and Krstich, were part of the group of players out on the field with their families after the game you moron.

So according to you they play hard and leave it all out on the field for SMU and their teammates, but for you to be totally satisfied they also need to stay in the locker and hide their faces, in addition to making their families go home without seeing them, because you have some psychic ability to read their hearts and minds.

I bet the players looked up in the stands at multiple points during the game and thought the fans had a lot of quit in them as well. Works both ways my friend.

Did I say EVERY kid quit? No. There were some warriors out there that fought it out until the bitter end. If you can honestly say that about every player then I'm sorry we were watching different games.

How many of those fans that left the game attended SMU on a free athletic scholarship. I don't care if the stadium is literally empty the obligation of the student athlete is to do the absolute best you can at all times.

Of course I don't want the kids not to be able to talk to their parents and chit chat after the game regardless of the outcome. I just wish we could see a little bit of anger and disappointment with being the worst team in America. I wonder if Nick Saban would be cool with his players looking up into the stands and waving to their family and friends with 8 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. But he probably wouldn't have quit on his team so the analogy doesn't really work. The kids are just following the lead of their coach. Hard to fault them but they still have a job to do.

No, but you specifically pointed out Wood & Krstich as the type of players you liked, without even realizing they were also the exact same players you were criticizing for 'not caring' because they were on the field after the game with their parents.

True or not true?
