Agreed on Heupel, does not have the experience to be a head coach yet, especially when taking over our program that needs a complete overhaul...too big a challenge for this young of a coach. I would say the same for Spavital. An OC that more experience, but still big upside like Morris is the way to go. A Mack Brown or Phil Fulmer like hire brings instant credibility to the program and with recruits just like LB did.

you sure about Morris? plenty of talk around Clemson about the timing being right for Morris' return to Texas. His daughter graduates from H.S. this year (wonder if she applies to SMU?) My Clemson buddy tells me Chad Kelly (Morris' 4 star QB recruit who was recruited over and run out of Clemson and is currently tearing it up at East Mississippi Community College) was spotted wearing SMU t-shirt recently. Could have just been a joke, but if Morris comes and immediately could bring Kelly (and if Kelly has matured)...that could go a long ways towards turning this thing around sooner rather than later. I agree he should be #1 target on our list

Morris is on a gold mine and has been for some time now. He is one of the highest paid coordinators, and Clemson's only real competition is Florida State, who after this season, will most likely be Winston-less. There is not much competition in the ACC and with the schedule left you see below, Clemson will finish 10-2 sign new contracts and a pay raise and have the showdown with Florida State the second time at a neutral site.

I would love to see Morris here but he's not leaving that type of job security to come here, and use his one chance as a head coach at SMU. And as for Chad Kelly, his GPA from clemson combined with his made up classes at East Mississippi Juco Classes won't get him into classes here. Also he was on campus at Ole Miss Saturday. Ole Miss, here?

Um Florida State and Clemson play in the same division so there's no chance of a title game rematch at a neutral site (Charlotte).

Point is. I'll pay your subscription fee for a year if Chad Morris is our new HC. He isn't coming here. Not now, probably not ever.

Anyone available off Bill Snyders staff? His previous assistants...Stoops, Mangino, Franklin at Penn State/Vanderbuilt, Tamba Bays head coach, venables? The old Fry coaching tree has been successful and the Snyder tree seems to be fruitful too. They know what it takes to win when you don't have the highest-rated recruits.

If recent experience is any guide, we can make the following educated guesses about the football coaching search:

1. It will take forever and a day. Nerves will start to crack on PF towards the end.

2. SMU will be silent as the grave up to the point that the presser is held to introduce the new coach. I swear, this school can give the North Korean government a run for its money on opaqueness (which is not necessarily a bad thing, by the way).

3. We will be happy with the result.

I think Turner and Hart are very, very serious about building a championship program. I think the next step will be good.

Of course the longer it takes the less time a new coach and his staff have to recruit some top players for next year.

Yeah that is a downfall of waiting to hire a coach until December or early January (June Jones) but this thing isn't going to get fixed overnight. June nuked this program in such a way that it is going to take probably 3 full recruiting cycles before we are able to be competitive. Next year and likely the year after will be tough to watch, but hopefully by 2017 and beyond we have this thing stable.

Heard from several Aggie people that Spavital isn't ready to be a head coach. Beaty, on the other hand, is getting interest from other schools and seems to be the hot commodity. And trust me, I am all for Spavital here if that is a possibility.

However, Chad Morris should still be the prime target. With Clemson out of playoff contention already, the talks will continue to thicken.
