Re: Willie Fritz"Fritz will bring a unique offense to Statesboro. He runs the “pistol triple option†offense. Which, in the most simple terms, is like your typical triple option offense, except much more spread out and usually run out of the shotgun (Good Bull Hunting has an awesome breakdown of the offense)."
You're confusing the way he runs it with a Spread. Pony up!

Re: Willie FritzLooks like you're right Reb. I guess the TO is more school related (which is more to your point).
I stand corrected. Pony up!
Re: Willie FritzIn no way would he make the 'splash' hire that a Chad Morris or Mack would make. There are too many other options (see list of names) to consider him.
Re: Willie Fritzred pony you're right, lets bring back Bobby Bowden. SPLASH HIRE!
Re: Willie FritzI live in Georgia, and I've watched GSU a few times on tv. They are very competitive. I think it would be pretty easy to get a qb to run this thing in Texas, kind of like that kid that TCU had. He should be in consideration. He would probably come with a reasonable price tag too.
Willie FritzWillie Fritz obviously has a record that proves he can turn around programs and win. He has a 72% winning percentage as a head coach. I would think he would have been a HC at a P5 program by now.
I am the first to admit I have not followed his career other than how well he did at SHSU. Does anyone know more about him and why he has not been hired as a HC by a larger profile school GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Willie Fritz
Before this season he had no experience in FBS in any capacity which would make him an oddity in the P5 ranks. They normally hire guys that have distinguished themselves in FBS as assistants or head coaches. Mora is the exception but he had an extensive NFL background. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Willie FritzI have followed Fritz for a long time. He was successful at Blinn winning two titles there, brought Central Missouri State out of the dumpster, and won there, and then took a very bad SHSU program and took them to 2 national title games in 3 years. He has three kids, and he didn't want to move them all over the country while they were growing up, and because he was at smaller schools, was able to be at a lot of things that coaches at bigger programs can't do.
He never takes a job to take one, and every job he's had so far, is one that has been offered to him, not him going out and applying for it. Sam Houston State Todd Whitten- 0 playoffs 2005-2009 25-28 Willie Fritz 2010-2013 31-10 2011 SLC Champions, 2011 NCAA Division I Finalist, 2012 SLC Co-Champions 2012 NCAA Division I Finalist
Re: Willie Fritz
I agree with you as well, but him and Craig Bohl both proved themselves and made two FCS programs powerhouses during the same time. I think they played each other twice in the Championship
Re: Willie Fritz
Both those games were in Frisco (suburb north of Dallas), Bohl won both (17-6 in 2011, 39-13 in 2012). They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Because Fritz comes from his tree , played and learned under him, I also think that Franchione would be a great hire to come in for a few years, change the culture, build the program back up, stop trying to be a spread team like every team in the country right now, recruit guys into his system, which is what got baylor to where they are now and why Texas State is having success and then hand it off to the hot up and coming coordinator. He has connections to all the HS coaches in Texas, and the Juco's, has ties to the metroplex from his time at our neighbors, and knows how to turn around programs. After watching Texas State beat Tulsa the other night, I'm glad that they were not on our non conference like previous rumors said they would be. He recruited David Mayo, Mike Orakpo, Tyler Jones, and Robert lowe and Craig Mager, all 4 of those guys would start for us today Fran would come with a cheaper price tag too, allowing to get better assistant staff pool. We wanted him in 2011, and 2007 and all he has done since is bring Texas State only being known as from a movie into the FBS world and getting TXST into being the fastest bowl eligible team in history of CFB. I don't think you can go wrong with this hire.
