Why don't you go look at there schedules and pick out there wins. Better yet I'll do it for you. Texas Tech's D is atrocious , and so is Western Michigan's, on top of that all of the alumni hate him and his row the boat mantra and his gimmicks and on top of that, thanks to genius non conferencing schedule, they play georgia southern on the road, michigan state, and ohio state next year, and have to find a way to beat bowling green, northern illinois, and toledo to avoid going under 500 again, because the first 3 are guaranteed losses at this point.
Texas Tech
Current Record = 2-2 @ Kansas State - L
West Virginia - Push (W/L)
Kansas-W

Say you're right, what will that even prove? It certainly doesn't prove that we shouldn't hire an up and comer because I can list a bunch of those that have succeeded if you want to delve into that. BTW your list didn't have any retreads on it, several of those guys didn't have any head coaching experience before they took their very first FBS HC job.

To go with that trend, Ron Meyer, Mack Brown, Switzer, Snyder, Leach, Osborne, all were coaches that got hired 15+years ago and it hasn't happened since , your outliers are Sumlin, who was at Houston, same level as this job, so BCS is irrelevant, because why would a coach leave a HC leave a BCS school to go be a HC at a non Bcs school, Todd Graham was at rice, as you said, also irrelevant. so in the history of college football and 128 jobs, there are 7 guys that followed that path, 5 of which aren't HC or coaches at all any more

No your just being ridiculous now. Those were the best hires those schools could have made. And yes there were plenty of people criticizing A&M and Baylor for lowering themselves into hiring a young Coach with no BCS offers. Plenty of Aggies especially wanted the big national splash hire and they got young up and coming young coaches with ZERO BCS experience. Even Strong was considered to have a thin resume for a Top 3 program which pissed off many of their top alumni. All these coaches were climbing UP the ladder not stepping DOWN the ladder

I mean... guys like Mark Richt (6 SEC East titles, 2 SEC titles), Jimbo Fisher (1 national title), Les Miles (put Okie Lite back on the map), etc just really screw up your argument, don't they?

yeah 4 of those guys are NFL head coaches or top coordinators who really don't fit. I guess I can pick Pete Carroll (USC), Nick Saban (Michigan St) and Mora (UCLA) for my argument

Who in the hell ranked those hires as the worst of all-time? Callahan wasn't an up and coming coordinator when he took the Nebraska job since he had just been fired as HC of the Oakland Raiders. Kiffin was also fired from the Oakland Raiders before taking the Tennessee job. Dooley did well enough at La Tech to get the Tennessee job. Muschamp hasn't even been fired yet. You named 12 (even though some didn't even fit the criteria ), I'll name 12 too 1. Bob Stoops- Florida DC to Oklahoma HC 2. Mike Gundy- Oklahoma St OC to Oklahoma St HC 3. Gary Patterson- TCU DC to TCU HC 4. Jimbo Fisher- FSU OC/HCIW to FSU HC 5. Bronco Mendenhall- BYU DC to BYU HC 6. David Shaw- Stanford OC to Stanford HC 7. Mark Richt- FSU OC to Georgia HC 8. Dan Mullen- Florida OC to Miss State HC 9. Bo Pelini- LSU DC to Nebraska HC 10. Mark Helfrich- Oregon OC to Oregon HC 11. Ken Niumatalolo- Navy OC to Navy HC 12. Kyle Whittingham- Utah DC to Utah HC Plenty more guys like Meyer, Saban, Snyder, Strong, Leach, Petersen, Sumlin etc that had no HC experience before taking their first FBS HC job.

This discussion had become pointless because you are both cherrypicking. You have to have a comprehensive list of all coaching hires in a given time and see what happened

Some pretty bad hires were made by retreads as well. Kiffin was the head coach at Oakland before going to Tennessee. Also I believe Brady Hoke is not doing to well after being HC at SDSU going to Michigan. Also on a different note, Sumlin was a Co-OC at OU before being successful at Houston. Graham was an asst coach before doing well at Rice.

Wouldn't most every coach ever serve as a coordinator at some point?

Several ways to skin a cat. No way is better than the rest as each situation is unique, ala LB.

Yes-the point is that it is a Myth that you have to have Head Coaching experience or BCS experience for BCS school to be a great hire-in fact the heralded young coordinator or the young head coach from small profile school going up the ladder is probably more likely to be the BEST hire
