Nobody can definitively say why Chris Phillips is not getting any airplay.

Maybe with Eckert out we will finally find out why.

I hope so.

I find it hard to believe at this point that Phillips couldn't do any better than Romo. Obviously what we are doing isn't working, so change it up and see how it goes.

The coaches would be crazy not to try someone else out at this point. You can change the people around the quarterback all you want, but if the same guy is ineffective you are going to get nowhere. It is like being lost from reading a map that is incorrect, but still depending on it to figure out where you are.

For what it's worth, which isn't much, the intel on Chris Phillips is that he's been inconsistent since returning from his injury. We've all seen Chris in action and know that he can be a difference maker, but evidently he's been making enough mistakes that the coaches must be leery of giving him the reins of the offense. Some have even speculated that Justin Willis is closer to being ready to go than Phillips, so unless something drastic happens, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Chris under center.

Look get your head out of the coaching staff's ass-we have all seen Chris Phillips play-yes he still needs to improve but he was no worse as a freshman than these guys are as Seniors. Chris somehow managed to keep us in games against very good TCU and Tech teams. I'm sorry but some of you just are too close to the coaching staff to make intelligent comments.

This has to do about control and realizing he is a fool for No. 1 recruiting these JUCOs and No. 2 for playing them.

I still wonder if he is fully healed from the rotator cuff injury. Obviously, last year he was as healthy as the JUCO guys and still won the job. Something must have changed this year, is the shoulder not quite right? Has anyone been able to see at practice if he can 1) throw with velocity on a 15 yard out, and 2) throw deep?

It looked like he could do both when he looked better than Eckert and Romo at the spring game.

nice try but if you recruit JUCOs NOBODY else wanted then that will get you just about as far as recruiting HS Seniors NOBODY else wanted. The QB situation is a direct result of simply awful recruiting not to mention player analyst by this this staff.

Stallion,

Stop being a jerk. I don't deserve it. And I'd suggest you get over your man-crush on Chris Phillips, it's ruining your objectivity.

Case in point: I didn't say anything negative about Chris. In fact, I was highly complimentary. As I said, "We've all seen Chris in action and know that he can be a difference maker."

However, the question was asked WHY he's not playing... And now you know. It's not my decision, and furthermore, I'm not ready to take a position on whether or not I agree with it. I'm simply reporting what I heard.

Player analysis may be a weakness of our coaching staff, but I could argue that the decisions re: the QB position are less glaring than some of the decisions made at other positions. For example the transition of Nnabufie to LB, the OL as a unit, burning Columbus Givens' redshirt... That's just off the top of my head.

I've got no problem with Phillips backing up Romo but I'd like to hear that he's getting some work in practice and will be the #2 guy if Romo is getting beat up or is completely ineffective. Who else do we have besides the RS Frosh (who need to remain RS this year)?

For whatever reason he was a no-show at the 7 on 7 games, and other
volunteer workouts during the summer :?: :?: :?:

I believe that it was because Chris was tending to his father duties.

never heard that before but just how many QBs get to be play in 7 on 7 Tournaments. We all see how important SMU's GREAT showing at the 7 on 7 Tournaments was this year. We have among the worst passing games in the country. I'm sure Eckert was a helluva 7 on 7 QB. Too bad he can't play football.
