Turner may be hoping for 0-12
because that will make it easier on the new coach he hires.
If Rossley comes in and helps us win 3-4 games
Then the new coach would have to win 5 games to make Turner look good
if we go 0-12 this season
and then the new guy Turner hires wins 4 games next year
it will be "oh wow...the new guy really has us getting better from 0 wins to 4 wins"

If Tom Rossley never played a single present day BCS school his record was still only 9-15-1 for a 33% winning record-and on many of those schools he had the advantage of recruiting to the SWC. Famously, 0-6 against Rice-a-roni. Fact is he couldn't even coach the Run N Shoot very well and most of his success was Flannigan free-lancing. When Flanigan was hurt he probably won about 10% of his games

He wasn't sought out for his head coaching expertise. He was sought out to assist with the offense. Remember he spent six or seven years as the Packers' OC. Doesn't hurt that he knows the SMU culture either.
