Re: call me a traitor if you want toNot a traitor. SMU football is a whipping this season. There are better, more constructive things for you to expend emotional capital on. I'm sorry, but watching your alma mater get blasted off the field week after week is just upsetting and depressing. . .why subject yourself to it? Particularly when we all KNOW IN ADVANCE exactly what is going to happen.
I've watched PART of every SMU game on TV this season, excepting TCU which I attended live. I have yet to finish a game either on TV or in person. Its just too painful. That being said, I still check the scores, read the write-ups in the DMN, and surf Pony Fans during the week. So its clear to me that despite my better judgment, there is still some part of me that refuses to let go.

A regular Ben-A-Dik Arnold.
Re: call me a traitor if you want toi'v watched a lot of very bad smu football since 1989 and stayed for the entire game with rare exceptions until this year.
there is something about this team that makes me not care. they are painful to watch. the o can't move the ball. the d is not as bad but is easily worn down but all those 3 and outs. i just don't enjoy watching it. that said i'll be there for the remaing home games but won't hesitate to leave early if we are hopelessly behind (likely).
Re: call me a traitor if you want toI care infinitely more for SMU football and basketball than any other sports teams out there. I will watch the ECU game live until it gets out of hand. If that happens, I'll turn it off and go have a Saturday. I'd be a little less inclined to leave early if it were here and I was watching it live, only because I wouldn't want to publicly turn my back on the team.
Re: call me a traitor if you want toWatch the game? Or flail myself with a cat-o-9 tails? I haven't decided yet. One is about as torturous as the other.
Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.

Re: call me a traitor if you want toI cannot, in good conscience, support a SEC matchup. I may however watch it at someone else's house - just so I can see their Aggie faces turn to sadness when their team loses.
Re: call me a traitor if you want toMy first year in the SMU family was the 6-5 Caven season where we beat Arkansas and almost made a bowl. That gave me an unrealistic perspective on post-DP SMU football. It took me a few years after that before I truly understood what I was in for over the long haul. I had season tix for the first few years at Ford, and my wife and I attended every home game until we had kids. I watched the Ponies get torched by Ok State, Tech, TCU, Boise State, etc. I've seen lots and lots of bad SMU football (though not as much as some on this board). Its not a fun way to spend your Fall.
When I look back over the past 17 years, the highlights for me are: (1) Beating KU to open Ford; (2) Beating TCU in 2005 or 2006 (can't remember which); (3) watching the debut of Pony Excess; and (4) 2009-2011 of the June Jones years. Those memories are fun. The rest of it pretty much sucks. When the Ponies get a new staff in here and start building it up, I anticipate there will be more fun memories to be had. I'll be tuned in for sure. But for now, I'm counting days until Bball season starts. Just being honest.
Re: call me a traitor if you want toi'm depending on tamu wins to counterbalance smu losses.
Re: call me a traitor if you want to
That sums it up the last two decades pretty nicely. I still get some pleasure in the hope that we'll be competitive this year. I like that the team has NOT given up.
Re: call me a traitor if you want to
If this team has not given up, I certainly don't want to see what it will look like if they do. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: call me a traitor if you want toI'll be at a sports book in Vegas, so I'll be watching both live.
Re: call me a traitor if you want to
Traitor!
Re: call me a traitor if you want to
Same here.
Re: call me a traitor if you want to
I think they did under JJ.
Re: call me a traitor if you want toThis will be the first one this year I won't be watching live because I will be at my daughter's volleyball game instead. I missed her game last week to go to that TCU trainwreck only to come home and find out that my 8 year old had scored more points by herself in her volleyball match than my Ponies did (6-0). Not making that mistake again; I'll at least get to see a team that is competitive and my Mustangs just aren't.
