I don't think that was a political arguement, just an observation that since SMU is trying to get the library, and they will need a lot of private donations to build it, if we all boycott something the board and the academics want, maybe they will be willing to give us the things we need to have a football program in exchange for an end to the boycott.

I don't think it will work cause I thinkt he people who would give to the library are not the same people who care about SMU football.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

Presidential Library donations come from places in addition to the usual University source of donors. Bush cronies, corporations, historical foundations. The University just gives them the land and they build it. So your premise kind of dies there.

If there are pro-football people on the Board of Trustees, they might be able to do some horse trading (pardon the pun) on other issues. I might add that the soon to be added School of Education might very well be a step in that direction by the Board which would certainly include a physical education aspect to education. Such a major would be attractive to athletes. It takes time to put together an entire school, curriculum and faculty and get the funding arranged. I would suggest that rather than boycotting, just make sure you're checks are earmarked to go to the School of Education. That would send a message to the Board that this might be a good option for the school. Also an education department would be attractive to those few female students looking for an MRS. degree.
