Then, when our defense stopped them on downs only to have the personal foul called for continuing without the helmet was brutal. How does the helmet come off to begin with, refs? Its happening way too much throughout football to be coincidence. Then the bumping into the kick returner play, that was more bone headed than anything, but still was an unlucky back breaker. I thought our guys came with good effort on Saturday, but when the floodgates opened, they couldn't stop it. This group of kids has had alot of bad luck to start the year, starting with whatever went on with June to a brutal schedule that no one could have predicted when the contracts were signed 3-5 years ago. Baylor and A&M are massively explosive top 5 type teams who borderline sucked 5 years ago relatively speaking. TCU is still one of the fastest teams in America, then we get ECU out of the gate. This team is shellshocked obviously. Give them some support and see if they can compete in the AAC as the season goes on.
Any good points on the UNT game?

didn't see anything good at UNT, no. Talking about TCU, every game is a new game, especially with June gone. One other thing i do recognize about the TCU game is its pretty tough when you are undermanned to play TCU the week after the Aggies which as bad as we played still had to have us banged up. i'm not excusing anything but we got enough people piling on, i'm just raising some other stuff including the bad luck we all saw in the first half of TCU. when it rains it pours.

Is that really hard to believe? Seems pretty typical of Patterson.

Pretty sure he did not want the game outcome to be less than what UNT did to us.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

TCU already had two bye weeks and likely needed real playing time to ramp up for conference play. If SMU had a glimmer of offense then the game would have been close, meaning TCU didn't look all that impressive.

What starters were out there "til the end?" I saw pretty much all backups out there for the entire 4th qtr.

As a former player and a successful player, I will gladly come back and talk to the team.
I will help out in whatever capacity I can.
Just let me know when and where and what you want me to convey to the team.
Tom Mason Staff Athletic Department [email protected] 214-768-1626 Shoot the man a note or give him a call. Can't hurt for these guys to hear some wisdom from the past.
My email as follows: Dear Coach Mason, I am Clement Fox and was the starting TE for the 1980 Pony Express. We met briefly at the Lettermen’s reunion. I had express a disappointment meant that you didn’t have time for me to ‘buy’ you a beer and the next day we shook hands as you and the ten alkyd down the Blvd towards the stadium. I very much support you and your staff’s efforts and always support SMU football teams and their players. I noticed recently that you asked for former players to return and provide any wisdom they could to the team. I am your servant. Let me know how I can help and if it is within my capabilities, I will. Best of luck in conference play and I look forward to sending you a congratulations note on your first win very soon Yours truly, ponyte, the man that threw the block that myrdel has to hear about over and over.

I also emailed him. Warned him about inviting you to speak in that it would be a pitch fest.

He is an M.D. therefore nothing he writes may be legible. I forgot for a moment.
