what changed?

Postby vielsiehorsepower » Sat Oct 04, 2014 2:44 pm

This game I decided not to head to bdubs to watch a slaughter but I was pleasantly surprised by the box score

What was different..play calling, execution, players fired up? What kind of things were the announcers saying etc

Game was played in North Carolina in front of the largest crowd to watch an SMU game all year. We should see if we can play the rest of our games in North Carolina.

They have not posted attendance yet - but it will be close between Baylor and ECU.

While it took a few weeks for the Anti-Biotics to kick in, it appears that the meds are starting to work and the Cancer (June Jones) is starting to enter remission.

Blocking better, I would say mainly from the few minutes I saw. (taped for later analysis). Garrett only sacked twice. Still too many drops...which cost a score or two.

And. Couple of missed field
Goals. Time to
Recruit a kicker. Those misses were momentum killers especially the second one.

This is no different than June. June used the non conference as pre-season and so has Mason. Same mentality. Our first conference game last year against Rutgers we almost won under June. The team is focused to play in conference play and not non conference play. Carry over from June.

Isn't the freshman punter Koonce, a kicker as well? Great punter so far, give him a shot.

What changed you ask? Vey simple. We're playing in our own conference against similar competition instead of Baylor, TCU & Texas A&M.

(yeah, but what about UNT, we're still the worst team on the planet) said the SMU haters.

Comparing how they played today versus the first couple games makes me wonder what they did prior to the first game. The first couple games looked like they'd not played for a year. The execution was better today. They played with more emotion and added a few different plays on offense.
Can't blame Mason for using the OOC as a preseason as it was June's mess.

I kind of think they figured out what Kristich is comfortable with. The play calling with bootlegs etc fits his game better than what they were doing before. Oline held up better too. Step down in competition.
