You can't compare the team today with the one that played UNT. The team was only there physically at UNT. Mentally, they were somewhere else. Had a good effort today. If we played UNT today, it would have been a close game.

No, ECU is not as good as Baylor, TCU, or aTm.

This is no different than June. June used the non conference as pre-season and so has Mason. Same mentality. Our first conference game last year against Rutgers we almost won under June. The team is focused to play in conference play and not non conference play. Carry over from June.

Not to mention that our non-conference competition is almost exclusively against teams ranked higher than anyone in our conference.

Don't tell Econ or Blackout, they'll still tell you TCU and their defense is average with a straight face.

What has changed is that Tom Mason has been able to begin to put his stamp on the team in spite of coaches who are resistant to change from June's way of doing things. The team respects Mason. He is starting to put the fun back in football for the players. Many of the successful offense plays (such as the screen and reverse) are those that Mason has inserted into the game plan.

Great observation and spot on. The bootlegs are nice to see as well.

The culture established by June & Co was as big a problem as his recruiting and scheme. The leadership & culture of this program has been terrible for years and luckily the first area that will improve drastically & immediately upon arrival of the new staff.

The WR reverse was a Mumme implant. Line up a FB and RB in a strong I, fake the hand off, pitch to the WR. That was one that Jabryce Taylor would take for 20 yards.

Noticed some tight end play also which is a great sign. Would love to see a double tight end play with Gaines and Hipps. Might as well have some fun.

(yeah, but what about UNT, we're still the worst team on the planet) said the SMU haters.

You seem to whine a lot
maybe so, but he's right.

No he is not. We should have been able to have a better showing against those team. And we sure should have shown better against green guys. Hopefully we will have a coach that will have us prepared for the first game of the season and not the 5th game of the season. But Mason needs to go either way.[/quote]sorry, guess I shouldn't say anything positive. Would hate to ruin your mojo.

You play like you practice.

Mason attitude. "We are not playing flag football anymore"

I'm really wondering what you expected from an interim HC? You actually expected to compete that much better in the first two games Mason was HC? Really? The guy had to come in and completely change the mentality of a demoralized team. You can't just snap your fingers and make it so. That stuff takes time. The team basically had to go back to square one the day June quit. It's not like Mason wanted to install things on the fly vs A&M and TCU. He didn't want to treat those games like glorified practice. It was simply a necessity.

Jabryce Taylor was dismissed from the team for apparently lying to Coach Jones, ie, the same person who was "less than truthful" about his offer from Arizona State. Simple lesson for players: only head coaches are permitted to lie.

Don't tell Econ or Blackout, they'll still tell you TCU and their defense is average with a straight face.

Look out!!!! That top ranked defense just gave up 61 points. Please don't tell footballdad that TCU's defense is just average because he will have to think twice about his man crush on them.

Haha, loved every minute of Fatterson going down in flames, would love for him to give up 800 yards every week! Unfortunately for your argument, his defense will still probably end up ranked very high nationally by season's end. I actually despise both teams but I can evaluate them honestly, whereas you base everything on emotion and your delusion that we are their peer. Funny thing is, that game just reinforces my argument that both of those teams are way out of our league and have left us far, far behind at this point. You just can't admit it.

I could also remind you that my entire initial argument was that we did better against ECU because they were less talented and much more at our level than A&M, TCU, & Baylor. I would say today's 28-17 ECU win over USF just proves my point again.
