Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboLarry Brown and Mack Brown is SMU's new 5 year sports answer to the Top 20 in both sports in Dallas. So let us just admit both old men's records speak for themselves for the next 5 years on the hilltop of SMU. Let's get Mack in here and let the winning on campus begin.

Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year Combo
I agree. I am not sure Mack is the best coach necessarily. But, he has the qualities that can really help SMU right now. He knows how to recruit. He can also create energy for a program and raise its profile, like he did when he lobbied UT into the Rose Bowl over Cal in 2004. Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboI'm warming up to the idea, as long as he hires up and coming coordinators.
Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboI would be thrilled but I can't see Mack taking the job.

Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboThey said he was interested on ESPN during our game
Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboAgree. We really need Brown's recruiting right now. Down the line I'd rather be upset that we didn't play well enough to win than have no expectations to win.

Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboI am starting to warm up to the idea also.
I would be trilled for a hot up and coming recruiting coach, but you don't have to look very far to see what happens when that coach leaves for a better job. Look no further than Houston. Art Briles and Kevin Sumlin are two of the more creative and hottest coaches in college, and they both had success at Houston. But look at Houston now, is that what we are striving to be after your young up and coming coach leaves? I am not saying you stick with the old coach as we know how detrimental that can be to a program, but an old coach that has had success, knows how to hire a staff, knows how to recruit, and wants to stick around. I don't know if Mack would be as loyal in the long run as Larry, but he is long enough in the tooth that I don't see a Power 5 school giving him a long term deal.
Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboMack would certainly be worth investigating. I would like a young man with energy and creativity that can recruit. However, Mack should not only know the ropes to recruiting but have the contacts in virtually every high school in the state (and perhaps around the country).
Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboThere's a lot to be said about a guy who's won a national championship and took his team to a second title game.
That's real success. All comparisons to June end with age. Sent from my iPhone.
Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboPlus, Mack gets it. From 2013 ESPN article....
In the heat of the greatest moment of his career, Mack Brown did something remarkably savvy and typical of his dedication to recruiting. Just moments after lifting the crystal BCS national championship trophy in the Rose Bowl, after beating USC for his first title, Brown was asked what this victory meant to the state of Texas. "What it means to us, been a long time," Brown barked. "There's a lot of passion and a lot of pride. I'm proud of these kids, I'm proud of our coaches -- high school football in the state of Texas. We love our fans and they love it." High school football in the state of Texas. On the biggest stage of his life, Brown remembered to give a shout-out to the high school coaches who raised his players. The gesture was symbolic of Brown's recruiting philosophy: He was always thinking ahead. No matter how history judges his final years, Brown will go down as a recruiting icon and innovator during his time at Texas. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboThe difference between SMU and Houston is that we will pay to keep or hire quality candidates while Houston has to identify them without much evidence since they do not have nearly the budget we do.
Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboMack is not interested in the SMU job. Move along, nothing to see here.

Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboThere is a story on the DMN Blog today quoting Brown's attorney Joe Jamail that SMU representatives have contact him about Brown but he wasn't interested-at least at this time

Re: Larry Brown/Mack Brown SMU's 5 Year ComboJust to throw gas on the fire....the same things were thrown around about someone hiring June Jones from Hawaii.
