Curious what Jason Phillips role as a coach is now

Postby Coogcheese » Sun Oct 05, 2014 2:11 pm

...with SMU? I guess I'm also curious what it was before Jones's coaching career with SMU ended...

We're probably looking for a whole new offensive staff soon...I hope...

Just moping around with an increasingly bad attitude contemplating his impending unemployment. Wondering if he'll ever be anything more than a receivers coach at the D2 level now that it's becoming obvious how incredibly bad he is at his job.

He is the Co OC.

It is tough to really tell. Years ago, when JJ was with Atlanta, he gave people inflated job titles to help build their resume. It started because someone wanted more money, but he couldn't get the funds - so he gave them the higher title. Like many CEOs JJ doesn't care about other people's titles as long as he is in charge. This became one of his standard practices (it was either DC Rod Rust or OC/WR Milt Jackson). That is why we had 2 Co-OCs, where JJ was really the only OC. Last year, Mumme was Associate HC for Offense. Mason for several years was Associate HC/Defensive Coordinator.

Basically he was the WR Coach and claims not to know the Offense he has been coaching here or played in during college. Let's be nice and say that his tenure at SMU has been less than impressive.

What's worse is he was supposedly a home run hire for recruiting and pretty much only pulled kids out of one high school. A disappointment for sure.

It seems like him and Morrison are the two worst coaches on the staff from everything I read here, maybe even worse than the futbol coach...

We always had great WR play when he was here particularly from low rated guys. It has steadily declined since he left even as the talent level seemed to be increasing. We now have a bunch of studs who can't catch or run good routes on a consistent basis.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 0 - 0 tie headed to overtime when our teams play. Oy.

We will trade you Phillips for your best recruiter and a first round pick in 2015.

You guys can have him right now if you want, absolute cancer. I'm sure Mason would pay half his salary for the rest of the year if there was any way to get rid of him.

Even before Phillips arrived we have a staggering number of drops. I haven't noticed as many this season, but then again when your QB is flat on his back before they even get into their breaks... Tough to tell.

If you want him, you are more than welcome to poach him. What do they say in the car business? "As is, where is. No warranty is given nor implied."
