SMU football ....

Postby Dubbya » Sun Nov 24, 2002 5:30 pm

.... is the only Texas Div. I team to win its last two games, and the only Texas Div. I-A team to win its last game at home AND its last game on the road.

3 of the last 5 ain't bad, either. Took a little while for them to come together, but the Mustangs are putting together a pretty good nuculus.

North Texas beat New Mexico State at home and Middle Tennesse on the road in the last two weeks.

Good luck with your remaining game.

Making up stats to pad the overpriced SMU ego? Image

UNT won two of their last games. In fact, UNT won their last 6 games. On the road and at home.

They even got a top 25 vote:

<A HREF="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankings" TARGET=_blank>http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankings</A>

Dave Campbell ranks UNT well ahead of the poor Ponies in Texas football.

Well, well, well...the mean green finally found PonyFans.com. Welcome...I think. You guys have had a pretty good year...congrats. I have to think a lot of credit is due to our Mustang alum...Coach Ramon Flanigan. Anyway, enjoy yourselves while you can...fate can be nasty sometimes.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Fate had been nasty to us for a long, long time...

Thanks for Ramon Flanigan, I remember rooting for him when I was in high school in West Texas, he was my favorite college player.

I think he is the youngest coordinator in 1A football.

Good luck on your last game.

Also... Head Coach Dickey was a former SMU coach... however I think most of our success comes down to our defense...

UNT NCAA Ranking:
Total Defense: #10
Scoring Defense: #5
Passing Defense: #12
Rushing Defense: #30

Flanigan is a coordinator now? He couldn't read a defense in 6 years of college ball! Of course, with his athletic ability, he didn't need to.

Congratulations to you, NTSU. Hope Dickey and Flanigan keep you rolling.

Yep, Ramon is our offensive coordinator. And I do mean offensive. UNT is near the bottom in that div 1a category. Thankfully we have a great defense to bail us out.

Dickey is coming around and gaining some respect, but still have a lot to prove.

It will take a lot more than a 7-5 season and two conference championships to make UNT fans have the arrogance of SMU. Thanks for the warning about fate though. We are trying to learn from our metroplex foe's mistakes. Image

I wish you guys luck next season. Hopefully our paths cross. That would be a fun game for both sides.

Thanks for the welcome to the board. Image

I'm sorry, people call us SMU fans arrogant, but we don't post on other team's boards and insult them. These UNT punks need to be taught a lesson. Why shouldn't we play them? It'd be a great game and I would love to watch it. As for UNT's defensive stats, they are a bit exaggerated as they haven't played the toughest schedule. BUT, I do give them credit. They've played a lot of teams close, and scored more points than we did against TCU, and also outgained them in yds. They played Texas close in the opener, holding them 214 yds. UNT deserves better than the Sun Belt, FOR SURE. But being arrogant about it is ridiculous. At least we have tradition and some history as a great football team. I respect UNT, but the fans on this board and on MM need to grow up.

Student,

I think some of the Mean Green fans are blowing off steam over years of percieved SMU slights. I think its the wrong approach to take.

I think it makes sense for UNT and SMU to play each other, it saves travel costs and it will bring in fans. TCU's largest home crowd this season happened at the TCU-UNT game.

I don't think out defensive stats are all that inflated, we where top 25 in defense after our OOC games, in which 4 out of the 5 teams where top 25.

That is what I always find so funny. They brag about Losing Better than us against TCU. Yes, I think a Metroplex Round Robin would be great. But then there would be bragging rights again for who LOST the BEST. HHHAAA!!!!

We are playing NTSU in basketball this Friday. I don't know what the problem is with football. Is SMU afraid to play NTSU in football? I've seen them play. They aren't any better than Tulsa or UTEP. They just happen to play in an absolutely horrible conference. If you can't beat the LaLas, Idaho, MTS and NMSU you shouldn't be in d-1. Whatever team NTSU plays in front of 5k in NO is going to crush them anyway. Would be funny though if TCU plays them and loses.

Funny Nacho... I think you squeaked out of Denton with a 4 point win in BB last year.

I know Mean Green football is better than tulsa, utep *AND* SMU. ESPN agrees with me, Dave Campbell agrees with me, and all of the Frog fans I have spoke with agree with me:
