Re: Please place the SMU student section behind the visitor
As I mentioned before-I think this violates AAC rules. Here's a Straight from the Heart Q & A regarding the rule with regard to Basketball-I believe the rule is the same for Football:
Jensen (Dallas): Great job this year and great in-game presentation! Is there any way to get the whole lower section of the South Side (plus Baselines) of Moody earmarked to students (much like Cameron)? The students have been raucous and entertaining but some of that Moody Magic doesn't translate to TV as well as you'd think. I had to miss one of the big home games and on TV, it looks disappointing to see the group behind both benches sitting while the baseline and center-court, lower-bowl fans are standing, loud and raucous.
Answer: Thanks for your support, Jensen! At this time, we do not plan to expand the student section at Moody to include the entire south stands. Per American Conference policy, the first two rows directly behind the visiting team are reserved for their use. It further requires that "Dedicated home student section seating areas may not be located directly behind the visiting team bench and 40 complimentary visiting team seats. Student seating areas must be at least one section removed from the visiting team bench area." SMU season ticket holders will continue to fill the upper rows to provide a "buffer" for the visiting team and their fans. The area directly behind the home team bench is reserved for their families and guests. We are pleased with the response from our students and look forward to working with them to review and improve our existing practices. As far as television goes, we have received excellent feedback on the arena and atmosphere from viewers across the country.

Student tix can't be within first 20 rows behind opposing teams’ benches between the 25-yard lines per AAC policy.

Did SMU vote in favor of that rule and why is it necessary in the AAC but apparently not the Big 12?

Any way that can be modified to fit Big 12 rules like most of our opponents do? Baylor, TCU and Tech will still be in our sched knowing how SMU schedules

SID, the AAC needs any advantage it can get against P5 opponents. This hurts the conference more than it helps it.

We should do it anyway and see if they do anything about it.

I agree. SID what is the penalty for doing it, per game?

Think about why you want them to sit there and then think about the rule.

The students in the SEC are mostly housed in the end zone (and usually caged in!).

I nominate that we no longer refer to "SID," as SID. Rather, he should be known as "Guru that knows everything ever asked by ponyfans no matter how bizarre, asinine, niche, or out of left field."

the AAC can impose substantial financial penalties for violation of its rules. In fact, if the home team charges the field after a victory I think that's an automatic $10,000 penalty that is assessed to the home team no matter the excuse. Ole Miss just got charged $50,000 by the SEC for charging the field after Alabama victory. You are expected to have enough security to handle the crowd. I'm sure the penalty for seating the students behind the home team would be much higher.
