Re: SMU football ....Here is the deal....in Bball we have the opportunity to play 12 non-conference teams which gives us plenty of choices and having UNT in the mix is no big deal. In Fball we only have the opportunity to play 4 OOC games...who do you want to give up to make room for UNT, Texas Tech? Oklahoma State? Baylor? TCU? All of these teams will bring in enough fans to fill the stadium. From the stand point of raising our image, we need at this point to be playing teams (and ultimately beating them) from preceived stronger conferences. Personally, I have no problem playing UNT in Fball....in fact their band is quite entertaining. I would rather play UNT than San Jose or Nevada which don't even bring a band much less very many fans, but that is not an option. If we were in the same conference with TCU, that would open up an OOC game and I would have no problem with putting UNT in that spot.
[This message has been edited by PK (edited 11-26-2002).] SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: SMU football ....Seriously there is no one in the WAC that NTSU could beat. See you Friday for another gool ol' SMU win over the flaming eagles. What is the series record now? 100-0 in favor of SMU?
Re: SMU football ....PK has hit the nail on the head. I await an answer to his question of which OOC opponent we should drop to make room for NTSU? Otherwise, perhaps this inane conversation can continue in several years when we have room on our OOC slate. And besides, there won't be a Sunbelt conference then anyway. Hell, there may not be a WAC as well.

I'll be back here on Saturday Nacho, win or lose. Lets see if you are.
Re: SMU football ....They use Dave Campbell's TEXAS Football as an example. They are above Texas A&M, Come on, never in a million years. DC is ALL TEXAS Longhorns, anything to put A&M down. Really do ya'll think you're Better than A&M? Naw, now truthfully now? Naw, Really? All of your credibility is at stake.
Re: SMU football ....As far as basketball is concerned, I am rather concerned about you guys this year. I think we'll take you, but I don't expect a blowout on either end. Looking forward to the game, since it will provide a much needed break from Thanksgiving. And for the record, I enjoy beating you guys almost as much as I enjoy us beating TCU. That doesn't mean I want to associate with you in a conference anytime soon.

Re: SMU football ....And don't forget, Baylor grad Dave Campbell also announces every year that the Bears are on the cusp of national prominence. Using his rag (I mean "magazine") as a reference is as logical as asking GWBush to define or even pronounce a word with more than 2 syllables. It's pointless.
ESPN has credibility. Campbell has none.
Re: SMU football ....Hey Digital Eagle if NTSU wins I am leaving the country. I know NTSU is better this year. I saw that you had a good win over SWMS up there--not an easy place to play. Best thing you ever did was get rid of Trilli. Should be a good game Friday. Let's see how many NTSUers are there. That's always your argument isn't it? You will bring fans? Well let's see it. Put up or shut up. And no excuses about Thanksgiving either.

The only WAC schools ranked ahead of UNT are Boise and Hawaii. There are 3 teams in the WAC ranked beneath every team in the Sun Belt. See if you can guess who those 3 are.

Re: SMU football ....I know this will sound like a flame but I don't mean it to be. Why does NTSU look so terrible. I am serious. The buildings are all old and not in a good way. They are falling apart. The landscaping if we are allowed to call it that is awful. I have been to all the d-1 schools across Texas. By far NTSU is the most unkept. In fact all the others are well maintained and quite presentable. What gives with NTSU. Is someone taking the state funds and going on trips to the Isalnds every year. Why can't you guys clean that place up and make it look presentable. I took a tour a couple of years ago with someone who said he would go to North Lake CC before he would go to NTSU. Is NTSU getting short-changed on funds from the state? Maybe you guys could form a cleaning crew and do the lawns on weekends. Someone else could paint, etc.
BTW I don't care about no stinking Sagarin rankings. I have seen NTSU play with my own eyes. They are bad. A blowout for the competition is a certainty.

Football? We'de beat you, no doubt in my mind, and outside of your mind Nacho, no doubt in anyone elses. I am guessing Vegas would put the line over 10, probably closer to 14. And Nacho, go ahead and call us NTSU, call us anything you want, just don't call us December 17th because we'll be in New Orleans.
Re: SMU football ....NTSU looks great? Okay. I can't think of a reply to such a ludicrous statement. Go to Pat O'Briens after the game. Order the quadruple Hurricane. You will need lots of booze to drown your sorrows. You can consloe yourself that you beat a d-1aa school and the LaLas.
Re: SMU football ....Digital-
That description was pretty accurate when I was one of those "50 Mustangs" to attend last season's men's b-ball game against you guys. It's far from the prettiest campus in the state. Good comeback on the Bowl comment, though. I do hope you realize, however, that your conference is the armpit of all conferences. Congrats on being champs of it...you've had a better season than us. I guess we'll see who laughs loudest in the end. Fortunately, I do not consider your program in any way a measuring stick to ours. _____________________________________

Re: SMU football ....Nacho-
Go ahead and make fun of the campus, I guess since thats all you have left and you know you couldnt beat us in FB, I'll let you have it. Eddie- This "armpit" of conference is rated just a tiny bit lower than the WAC by Sagarin. When I look at the WAC I am pretty sure we would be underdogs to Boise St, and possibly Hawaii... but thats about it. Look, I am not over here flaming. I like to check on the TCU and SMU forums because you guys are close by. I think the UNT football team has earned some respect. I think SMU is a fine school, and it has agood athletic program, even if football is pretty down right now. I just dont see why some of the SMU fans refuse to refuse to see what UNT has accomplished.
