Explain to me how are Wake Forest, Wash St, Kansas, Syracuse better jobs than SMU? Put us in a P5 and we are a top 15 job.

Tennessee did one for Butch Jones too -- It's pretty good.

Remember, this is who Rick Hart's dad hired at Tennessee. Hopefully he's given his son some advice!

LOL. Even if we were in a P5 conference we'd be a marginally better job than we are now. Top 40-50 job in the country b/c of location and recruiting potential.

Maybe I am naive and self pitying, but I honestly believe that if we had been invited to the Big 12 and had access to all of that money and the recruiting pool we would be on the same level as our friends in Fort Worth and Waco right now. Both schools found the right coach but it is easier to become the right coach when you are recruiting in the P5. Otherwise, the intangibles we have at SMU far outweigh both of our church school brethern.

It would take a sustained effort for about 5-10 years for SMU to get to where TCU and Baylor are at right now even with P5 platform.

2 different questions

1. Whether we could compete in the Big 12 with the Big12 money and exposure

2, Whether we could get to where TCU is now- into the Big 12- without the Big 12 money and exposure
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

1) Yes. We're just never going to compete for those kids that want to play in front of 70k-100k+

2) Depends on the level of commitment. I don't think SMU gets into a Big 12 with UT, but P5 absolutely can happen (my pick/guess is ACC).

I would've said that P5 was possible prior to the AAC Grant of Rights. Now I think that's a pipe dream. Not to mention I'm not 100% convinced that SMU is committed to fielding a top tier program. I just don't know how important it is to the powerful people associated with this school.

I really do wonder where we will be in 10 years. Had you told me 10 years ago that TCU would be in the Big 12 with WVU, A&M would be in the SEC, and Rutgers/Maryland would be in the Big 10 I'd have laughed you out of the room. So there are plenty of variables that are simply impossible to predict.

The elephant in the room that we don't want to talk about is that there will be a day when the university simply isn't willing to see the sort of monetary losses associated with trying to compete with the big boys. There has to be some kind of endgame. I think it will take some serious outside the box thinking (not playing in the spring type of idiocy) but something drastic to keep the program alive. The American is a nice holding place until the next major shift, but I hope the university has some kind of contingency for when the next one hits. Whether that's going independent, scheduling alliances, etc.....We can't be left without a seat at the table next time or SMU football is probably done.

1. Yes. I can't believe that TCU and Baylor have more to offer than SMU and they are the two top teams in that league right now.

2. I don't completely understand the question. If you are asking can we be as good as TCU is right now without P5 credentials? No.

Question 2 is whether we can make the jump TCU made to the Big Boy table

You know Stallion, my biggest fear is that there is not room in the DFW area for two successful private schools. If that is the case, we have to knock TCU off of their pedestal and that just isnt possible unless we claw our way into the P5 somehow. A catch 22 I suppose.

As things stand today, I don't see how that is possible
