Eric Dickerson is one of the Greatest Mustangs of all time. YOU are NOT. I'd leave it at that if I were you-go ahead and criticize him but don't act like you speak for "good" SMU fans

Thank you....I'm sure he will now tell us how Strong and Vandy did everything better.

Great Mustang, great athlete no doubt.

Most interesting was that his actual teammates described him as Arrogant, Diva, and Not a team player. Their exact words, not mine. Explains his recent whining about SMU perfectly. All about Eric all the time. Never beloved by a wider audience like a Walter Payton because football fans in general didn't like what he was all about.

Would be nice if he would just support the program, just not in his DNA.

Five minutes with Dickerson's self-aggrandized posing will have you looking for the exit. The guy tells some verifiable whoppers as well. I can't remember which sportswriter said that if Earl Campbell and Eric Dickerson walked through the door, people wouldn't flock to Eric because of his off-putting personality. We paid ED to be a Mustang, period. Had he managed to get someone in Norman to answer his phone call, he would have been a Sooner. But, now that the accounts are settled, SMU may as well wring all the PR it can out of Dickerson's legacy.

Well since all good players were paid, I'm glad we invested in ED. He may be arrogant but like the guy said, he backed his arrogance w/his performance on the field.

So the date one joins Ponyfans is their official date of fandom? OK, sure. Let's just say I've been around longer than that, and it's likely I"m much more familiar with the inner workings of the June regime than you or any other person who has been a fan of the program for 5,10,15, or 30 years. The past is really irrelevant to this programs future.

So let me clarify. My comment had nothing to do with Dickerson this time, everything to do with the "this team sucks, total embarrassment" nonsense.

Either support the team now that June is gone or don't. Be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. Seems to me the whining and b*tching of Dickerson and useless snide comments above, are part of the problem.

Not to pick a fight but the team really does suck... I mean they are Div-II players at best. Its not their fault, its June and company's fault for recruiting them to what we thought was Div-I football team. I say that because their other offers were from Div-II teams or teams that just recently came from the Div-II. Complaining fans are not the problem. The fault lies with the SMU administration and Jones and hopefully they learn from their mistakes, and they put a legitimate plan into motion. Higher someone that's young, proven track record of recruiting, and has a fun game plan; that and only that is the solution. A secondary solution would be Turner going to have alum and asking for a donation for the program to get the athletic funds up so we can get a great coach, recruiters and coordinators and some decent PR people.

^^^^^^ Touche. And to your last point, not sure how you wring much PR out of a guy who only criticizes his alma mater?

We were 2 deep on the OL in those days and could rotate lines to keep everyone fresh...and passing QBs knew we were a running team so it was probably tough to recruit pro-style guys but Lance was a pretty good option QB

I was talking about the NFL QBs like Jeff Kemp, Dieter Brock, Steve Dils and Jack Trudeau.

As Joe Pepitone once said. "love me or hate me...as long as you recognize me". For SMU football, any publicity is probably good publicity. You don't hear much about Rice or Tulane or Tulsa or UNT on a national level, do you?

Are you sure that wasn't a quote from Dickerson himself?

Please, please somebody recognize me, don't ya'll know I was the greatest ever? Don't ya'll know my QB's sucked? Football is not a team sport, my O-Line had nothing to do with me getting all those rushing yards, they sucked too, it was all me,me,me. Why doesn't anybody like me? Hey, don't you know why SMU sucks too? Let me tell you, it's because they didn't support the greatest coach of all time, June Jones. Come on man, don't you know, I'm the greatest RB of all time and June is the greatest coach. Anybody don't believe that just a hater. You supposed fans that don't love me suck, and SMU sucks. Hear what I'm sayin? Forget ya'll, I'm Eric Dickerson man.

yeah, and SMU sucks, shut that program down. :x

Let me get this straight. Basic facts first:

ED is regarded as one of the best RB's in the history of the game.
ED played on top ranked HS and college teams.
ED played for absolutely horrible NFL teams.
ED engaged SMU teams at multiple times post death penalty (buddy told me of the time he visited the team when they played UCLA in '94, said the stories were hilarious).
For the majority of Turner's tenure, ED (and many of the other members of the successful 70's-80's teams) were persona non grata.

Now, we know ED was involved with JJ and became a supporter. He saw growth and maybe got caught up in SMU finally not resembling his NFL teams, only to have that destroyed by the realization that his amigo JJ was a fraud who had run off with the cash. He made the cardinal mistake of wanting to believe, and lashed out when that facade crashed down in front of him.

Oh, and we are shocked that an exceptionally talented football player is a [deleted] bag. We are amazed that some kid who was given a brand few freaking car by A&M and god knows how much cash by UT as a high schooler (I ignore our sins here, blinded by desire) has an inflated sense of self? Seriously...WTF?

ED was an idiot and should not have spouted off after JJ left. He may even be a [deleted] (was gracious and open and congenial when I met him, alongside Michael Johnson, and the only [deleted] thing he did was make fun of Johnson for being so excited that amidst the football players there someone actually recognized him), but complaining about stars being jerks is akin to [deleted] about potential NCAA violations at schools in Florida. Let's get over it and hopefully he is forced to eat his words...but get over it.
