Mudiay
Mudiay did not lie and he signed an LOI. Just a series of other things that happened that caused him to have no other option but to turn pro. From what those in the know say it probably helped SMU not have to go through an NCAA investigation.

Thank you for clarifying. Until I read your post I thought this situation was exactly similar to mudiay's and did not at all realize junior was obviously joking.

This kind of thing is happening more and more with social media. There have been some stories of kids committing to schools because of fake contact through twitter. I wonder if someone has been in touch with this kid pretending to be from SMU.

His rivals page list three offers. I wonder if he got catfished by someone wanting to pretend they are a big shot coach/recruiter, or if the twitter page is owned by the actual player.
The rivals and scout reporters should check with the other schools to see if those offers are even real.

I feel bad for Billy Embody... Kind of reminds me when EJ got everyone going on the SMU to the SEC story. He seemed to bounce back just fine. It is just one of those things where you cringe and can feel someone's embarrassment.

Not as bad. It happened to Armen as well on time. Recruits tell you what they tell you. Both Billy and Adam reported it. Most of the kids associates were upset at the kid for telling people that he was committed to SMU when he had no offer. This is like several years ago when a kid announced on TV that he was committed USC to play football when he did not have an offer from USC. Networks reported it then found out it was not true. The kid was the one that looked bad not the networks or other media.

Didn't think less of Billy whatsoever. That EJ/SEC situation was ugly.

There's also Victor Dukes, who claims offers from more than a half-dozen elite programs, including SMU, that apparently never were offered. Is this a trend? Don't the kids know that touting bogus offers/commits is a good way to become unrecruitable?

I remember a story a while ago, in football, about I guy claiming to help HS players get noticed and offered scholarships. He would lie to say they had an offer from Miami, that the media would pick up on, and then coaches from other schools not doing their own due diligence would blindly offer the player as well. My guess is these kids are just hoping claiming they have an offer will generate enough interest from other schools to get a real offer. Given how sports journalist take them at there word, there is probably a ton of them out there. Glad to SMU is now a school worth pretending to go to
