Wiki had 2010 data: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_MemphisI was just saying, it's not exactly worth clarifying (or bragging about) that you moved $35m in three years. Doesn't scream "hey we have huge resources to pay for a coach". Regardless, we're not going after Memphis State's coach, so we could all agree to disagree...

I just don't get why we can't relate to the inner city fans.

Funny, my calendar says it's Oct of 2014. What makes you think the money would come from the school? our boosters pay for raises. I believe the UofM pays Pastner 199k per year...the rest of his 2.65 million dollar salary comes from boosters. Its like Rice bragging about their endowment...they sure as hell don't spend it on sports.

I think he was referring to attitude.

Thanks. His comment was not lost on me. I was just stating that it's not unreasonable to say money is a/the factor drivng much of this change. Feel free to debate whether Memphis BBQ is enough of a draw.

Forbes has you ranked #609, one spot below SE Louisiana.
That is pathetically, laughably low.
School endowment of $183M, I think our artwork at Meadows is worth more.
Plus aren't you really just a glorified commuter school?
You have nothing on SMU.
lol, SMU fans are so snobby... Memphis' endowment is 218 million+ http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandrevie ... mphis-3509and there is nothing wrong with being a commuter school, just look at Louisville in the ACC.
I am routinely embarrassed by the stereotypical snobbish, money centric comments on this board. There are no guarantees of financial success from any university. Yes, it is sad we are now jealous of Memphis football. We had a good head start and now we are in last place. But, our endowment is bigger than yours seems childish at best.

82, your comments are understandable but not consistent with the times. Today, we find 100-year old rivalries killed over $. Coaches move for the highest paycheck and best facilities. Finances matter.
I'm not saying SMU is going to steal Memphis' coach, but to say they can go toe-to-toe with SMU on the basis of $ ALONE seems like a stretch.

I don't think the coaches salaries come from the endowments. Somebody already said it, but Pastner makes 2.65 million a year. What does Brown make? I really don't know. All I know is when Memphis beats us by 40, going to the US News college rankings won't make me feel better.

Won't make me feel better either but them beating us by 40 won't mean much in the grand scheme of things. I mean we beat them the last 3 years and look where we're at now.

It's not "snobby" to state fact. If UT, with their 10x endowment (to us) and resources, wanted one of our coaches then they would come and take him/her. Fact. Money talks in all of this. BTW, the $188 is the wiki 2010 number. You're not exactly making your case by saying you went from $188 to $218 in three years.
Thanks Cox, The $183M number is from the first website listed after I googled 'University of Memphis endowment' and is a Wiki #. SMU's endowment is almost 7x greater, so yes, with such an extreme variance it does matter. Does everyone realize there are maybe 6 schools in the world whose endowment is 7x greater than SMU's. It's like a PF going on an MIT board and telling them they can't afford an asset we possess. That's not snobbery, that's nonsense.

Again, what do your academic endowments have to do with your athletic program? Our athletic budget is fueled by our boosters...to use my example yet again, the UofM pays Pastner around 199k while the rest is paid by boosters. I'm also not worried about Harvard or Rice stealing him away...I hear they have money, too. I'd be much more worried about a school like Indiana or Iowa State coming after Fuente.
