A mitch better choice for them would be ECU or UCF to bolster their presence put that way. We have a better chance of the SEC wanting a team in DFW to bolster their takeover of 2/3 of the state. And that chance is pretty small
Check out these TV rating from Saturday: college-football-tv-ratings-2014-tcu-baylor-texas-oklahoma-red-river-rivalry-abc-overnights
1) Look at they Baylor/TCU game. Although they didn't beat Texas/OU or MSU/Auburn, they did manage to draw a huge crowd to the game and TV ratings better than Notre Dame. They demolished UCLA/Oregon.
2) As much as I despise both schools, I have come to realize that they are our best hope at getting into a P5 conference. Why? They are proving that private schools can compete with BIg State Schools, draw crowds, and generate attention in big media markets (DFW - TCU).
3) For the reasons that you outlined, I think that the B12 is unlikely. But, I am 100% positive that we are on their "list." On the plus side, we are in a major media market, travel costs would be minimal, and good academics. Plus, fans of other B12 schools like going to Dallas for games. On the negative side, we have no recent history of real success, small crowds and we don't add to their footpring. If we get into the B12, it will be as an "extra" or to block a move into Texas by the SEC/ACC/B10/P12 (the "Other P5").
4) With the exception of travel costs, we are attractive to the other P5. Plus, we add to their recruiting and TV footprint. If Junesus had done his job, we would have been 2-2 in the OOC schedule and looking to sweep the AAC. While that wouldn't get us into the playoffs, it would give Hart ammo to sell to the Other P5. Sales Pitch: "Of course we don't draw a crowd for games against Tulane, but look at our sellouts against Baylor, TCU, and TAMU. If we play a SEC/B10 team at home every other week, we'll easily draw in the 30's and we will probably need to add to our stadium.
$100 Bet: If we sweep the AAC (in the next 5 years) in back to back years, we get an invite from a P5 Conference.
