I believe they're referring to culture and lifestyle. However Im going to respectfully disagree and say that Allen has a better program at the moment. With that said, I'd rather live in Westlake over Southlake any day. Better golf and scenery.

I keep forgetting that Southlake is the winningest program in Texas high school history. Wait a minute, no they aren't.

Let's get this thread back on the topic of Ehlinger, who is a stud in every sense of the word. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this kid will be the most highly recruited player Westlake has ever had by a long shot and is already being heavily recruited by Auburn and Baylor. Ehlinger is every bit of 6'2 right now and there is some chatter that he's up to 215lbs now. At the Baylor camp, he ran a 4.53 while throwing up 345 on the bench and 535 on the squat. Kid is an athletic freak. Westlake's OC last year wanted to start Sam over SMU QB Jordan Severt as a Freshman, but Allman shot the idea down because Severt had earned his chops, rightfully so. However, in retrospect, it would have been interesting to see how he could have done and just how much more highly recruited he could be right now. Regardless, the kid is an absolute stud and many are saying he could end up being the best player Westlake has ever had, including Brees and Foles.
Some high praise for a kid that just turned 16.

He just lost to Austin Bowie, I'd say Drew's legacy is safe.
When he wins state for Westlake, even if it isn't the 40 point beatdown like Drew gave Abiline, there can be a discussion.

That's a bad point. You can't win without a supporting cast.

The loss to Bowie was not anywhere near Ehlinger's fault. I think if Westlake wins state, it's within the next two years. We shall see. With Sammy at the helm, I wouldn't put anything beyond this team. Kid is legit.

Out of sheer curiosity...
You're talking Westlake, seem to have a personal interest in WHS or the QB, AND the Campbell in your username. I played football at Westlake, with one of Earl's sons, so I was wondering what your tie-in is...if any.
Either way, it's refreshing to see WHS have a QB that'll probably be a headliner. We have had SO much talent quarterbacking our offenses these past few decades, and they ALWAYS produce at NCAA and NFL levels, but never with huge recruiting fanfare. Oh well, glad we got Severt!

I'm not sure who's on the team this year, but I know at the very least, Bryce Hagar's little bro is on the squad and he has the best size of any of the Hagar boys--only one to score a scholarship to their UT legend father's alma mater. Not that one player makes the difference, but the cupboard is never particularly bare at Westlake. It'd be great if Ehlinger can top Drew, but Drew is a legend--surpassing him would be devastatingly tough to accomplish. I'm sure Campbell will speak for himself, but I don't think either Christian or Tyler Campbell have ever been on this board, not sure why they'd get on... And just to weigh in, I always felt like Westlake:Austin::HP:Dallas But that's not really a football analogy, more about economics, location, and the degree to which alums feel like they're high school heroes

My first name is Campbell and I graduated from Westlake in 2013. Ehlinger is one of my brother's good friends and the hype surrounding him in Austin is ridiculous. In addition to the Westlake parents wanting to take pictures with him (mostly 45-50 y/o men) and getting autographs, there are people from other teams who always ask who Sam is before we play them and what makes him so good. The amazing this is how he handles all the pressure and stardom. He is very humble about it and knows that he HAS to go out and perform each week.

In addition to Hager, Westlake has two other 2015 D1 Linebackers in Hudson Hall and Gabe Duran. They have a pair of 2016 WR's in Reed Klubnik and Chase Cokley that may very well be D1 guys as well if they fill out their 6'3 frames. The 2017 class has LB Levi Jones (son of Cowboys LB Robert Jones and little brother of Zona and ECU WR's Cayleb and Isaiah Jones) as well as two transfers in DT Stephan Zabie (kid is the real deal, top D1 guy for sure) and RB Tony Washington.
