We *rightfully* caught alot of crap for that, but the truth is we won our conference, and the conference champion goes, we earned that.
I think there are three WAC teams ranked under the lowest team in the SBC.

Is a SMU fan really telling a UNT fan not to get too full of themselves? Alert the President, this may be a sign of the apocalypse.

Now, like I've said before, good luck, and I guess I'll see some of you at the game this friday.

I'd love to see UNT play SMU as well. Three strong teams in the metroplex would make for a great rivalry. Imagine if we could fill our stadiums with fans on any given Saturday. I'm excited for the future. As for basketball, what happened to B-Hop against TTech? 2 pts? We'll kill UNT, but we need B-Hop to be consistent! Great game for Q though!!

I dont think you'll KILL us... I look for it be a close game with the winning spread to be <8pts, just like last year. I think we have a good shot at winning and expect it to be a good game either way, I plan on being there.

BHop played only 8 minutes and is nursing a hip injury. I'm sure it will be tough to keep him off the court against UNT, but we need him healthy for WAC play so let's hope he doesn't aggravate this injury (if the damage wasn't already done last night)

I think playing Northwestern and Wake Forest are steps in the right direction...maybe a game vs. Vandy or Duke may be in order as well. However playing a Sunbelt team, I do not believe is in order.

Look at the conference, to your average or even above average sportsfan, most would not know some of the teams are in D-1A e.g. Arkansas State, Louisiana Monroe...

If you look at the conference, boy would I be scared to have that conference schedule. Arkansas State, Idaho, Louisiana Lafayette, Louisiana Monroe, Middle Tennessee State, New Mexico State, and UNT.

Although the WAC is no SWC, at least it produces some top-caliber talent e.g. David Carr.

On this topic I can speak from the Ivory Tower of SEC football, though my gamecocks went 5-7. It was football and travel from Virginia that ultimately dissuaded me from SMU. Y'all have a beautiful stadium, a good alumni base, but you need to put the fans in the seats. Maybe having UNT would actually fill Ford Stadium, but I think more green would show then Crimson and Navy. I went to the Fresno game last year, and that was the best team y'all played and seats were empty.

I know this is a ramble, but ultimately to the UNT fans, y'all have played well, and have built a respectable program. I would not be surprised if when the WAC has their next opening, perhaps with someone leaving it to join C-USA, that UNT would be heavily consider to join the conference. But currently, for the UNT faithful to be hollering about SMU being scared to play UNT because SMU won't schedule UNT...is along the same lack of rational thought as any Pony fan stating that Texas and aTm are scared to play SMU because SMU is not on the schedule.

That is my ramble for a while...I'll be back every once in a while to see how y'all are doing. Best of luck this basketball season, if any of y'all are in Columbia, SC this year, stop by our new arena - it is absolutely beautiful.

To say UNT would be a 10 pt favorite over SMU is laughable. You people brag about bowl appearances, in losing seasons, while being in the nations worst conference.

Digital, who would we possibly drop in football for your miserable little program?Makes no sense and you know it.

Bottomline, you've max'd your potential as a program and its minimal. We were a proud tradition, now reborn under Bennett. We are bringing in ballers, plain and simple. In our worst hour we were better than NTSU and in the dawn of a new day, clearly , you aren't in our future.

I also wanted to give Coach Dickey a little credit...this is from the UNT Athletics site:

In 1997, Dickey helped the Mustangs to their first winning season (6-5) since 1986 and the school’s longest winning streak (5 games) since the end of the 1984 and the beginning of the 1985 seasons.

For the season, SMU averaged 309 yards per game and ranked 26th in the nation in rushing offense. The Mustangs were tied for sixth in the nation in turnover margin at +13, turned the ball over just 14 times, allowed just 13 quarterback sacks and averaged 22.5 points per game, the most for an SMU team since 1985.

Also, Coach Dickey serves as head coach as well as the offensive coordinator, not Ramon Flanigan, as one UNT fan posted. Ramon is only the quarterbacks coach, and interestingly enough, was part of the Mustang's 6-5 season under Coach Dickey.

Cool.

That is obviously an error in UNT's site...it was probably suppose to be about Ramon and not Dickey. Dickey was long gone from here when we had our first winning season since 1986. Also FYI Dickey was never a Head Coach here.

Check this out for the real history.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Uhm...I think you're wrong there. That info is correct. I never said Coach Dickey was a head coach here, either. Please read the post more thoroughly before commenting on it. Thanks!

Our first winning season since 1986 was in 1997 under Coach Cavan. Here is an informative article for you:

Usually you are better informed PK! Also, what exactly is it in your link that doesn't confirm the UNT site?

I stand very humbly corrected 06...I would have sworn that Dickey left while Rossley was still the HC. Ramon on the other hand was burned into my memory as being a part of the 1997 beakout season which is why I thought they were probably refering to him. I only said that Dickey was never an HC at SMU in case you had that impression from the UNT site blurb since it didn't identify him as having been the OC....or at least not in the part you quoted.

You are right, to accept anything less than 14 would be asinine.

NTSU has no offense. They do play halfway decent defense. So does Tulane with former SMU d coordinator Eric Schuman. Kind of funny--2 former SMU coordinators going at it in the worst bowl in the country. Tulane 32 NTSU 9.
