SI on New SMU Coach - Tom HermanSMU: The short list appears to be Clemson’s Chad Morris, Ohio State’s Tom Herman and Oklahoma’s Josh Heupel. Names like East Carolina’s Lincoln Riley, Rice’s David Bailiff and Arizona State’s Mike Norvell could join the list. They’ll be some retread buzz like Mack Brown and Houston Nutt, but that will be more to pacify boosters.
Tulsa hasn’t opened yet, but it will essentially have the same list once it does. Could get interesting as these two AAC schools fight over candidates. Best guess? Herman for SMU and Morris for Tulsa. http://www.si.com/college-football/2014 ... g-carousel Last edited by Harry0569 on Thu Oct 23, 2014 4:19 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd HermanHmmmm, a Mensa member as well, doubt many D1 coaches can make that claim.

Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd HermanMorris ain't going to Tulsa. When he jumps it will be for bigger dollars, and they won't pay up.
Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd HermanDidn't find the wiki info. Following is some info from the Ohio ST. web site.
Pretty good background. I didn't realize he had so many Texas roots. "Tom Hermon has one of the bright young minds in college football," Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said. "His philosophies are very similar to those of my own." Herman, who was named the 2013 Rivals.com Big Ten Recruiter of the Year and national Top 25 recruiter, arrived in Columbus after spending three years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Iowa State University, and before that was offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for record-setting offenses at Rice University. Herman coached four years at Sam Houston State (2001-04), serving as receivers coach and special teams coordinator. He also spent two years at Texas State (2005-06) and two years at Rice (2007-08) as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. While his Texas State offenses led the Southland Conference in total offense each season, his time at Rice was particularly notable. His offenses broke over 40 school records and in his second season the Owls won 10 games and went to a bowl for the first time since 1954. Furthermore, Rice ranked in the Top 10 nationally in 2008 in passing offense (5th; 327. ![]() Herman was born in Cincinnati and still has family there. He was raised in Simi Valley, Calif., and he played collegiately at California Lutheran, in Thousand Oaks, graduating in 1997 with a degree in business administration. He has a master's in education from the University of Texas.
Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd HermanLiking this guy more and more. Didn't realize the outstanding recruiting resume listed above. Let him get here and recruit the next JT Barrett (Texas kid recruited by Herman) to lead his style of offense and we're on our way. Barrett's rapid improvement making Buckeye fans move on from Braxton Miller quickly.
Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd HermanFrustrating thing here is both Clement and the WR Dillard on their own took trips to SMU to inquire about playing and were told we didn't need them. I posted this some time ago. Clement played at Alamo Heights where the AD is former great SMU basketball player, hopefully we will hire someone who cultivates those relationships around the state. Anyone with a SMU connection should be reached out to.
Maybe Herman if he gets jobs will understand you can actually get some quality kids from Steele, Judson, Alamo Heights, Smithson Valley and other programs around here. Certainly works for TCU, Tech, Nebraska and other Big 12 schools who seem to find kids down here.
Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd Herman
BS. SI has nothing on the inside. Herman to SMU? Ha ha... If Mack declines, it will be Morris. About 25 feet from the Hillcrest track... With the boots so tall and the writing on the wall...
Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd Herman
Correct. Tulsa is not going to get Morris. About 25 feet from the Hillcrest track... With the boots so tall and the writing on the wall...
Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd Herman
No one has been offered the job yet, so Mack is in no position to decline.
Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd HermanIf Herman gets the job, remember OBF called it first. He started a thread on it a long time back.
I cannot imagine Morris going to Tulsa over SMU. If we want him and he has a choice between the schools, why the heck would he choose Tulsa. No disrespect to Tulsa, but he might not even leave Clemson for Tulsa, but what the heck do I know.

Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd HermanIf either Morris or Herman actually want the job, Brown should be a distant 3rd behind those 2.
Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd HermanAgreed, dad.
Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd Herman
Brown could recruit 5 star classes then coach them down to 3 star. SMU does not need him. Sent from my KOREAN knockoff using Tapdance 5
Re: SI on New SMU Coach - Todd Herman
im with you. didn't know he was a beast recruiter. Does Morris do a lot of recruiting at Clemson?
