UNC scandal killed Mack to SMUIt has probably been said before, and it will come as no surprise that the UNC scandal killed any hope for a deal with Mack Brown. SMU must distance itself from anyone associated with any hint of scandal.
About 25 feet from the Hillcrest track... With the boots so tall and the writing on the wall...
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMU
If that is really the reason then it is [deleted] stupid.
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMUBrown was not formally offered and UNC head nothing to do with anything

Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMUIf that is the reason than it it is a terrible freaking reason. Not one person in all the media attention has even made that connection. Please tell me we are not that stupid or we have no hope.
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMU
The operative word is formally... About 25 feet from the Hillcrest track... With the boots so tall and the writing on the wall...
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMUMove on - no Mack
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMUThis is ridiculous. I believe it bc the OP has not been wrong yet. This one makes me sick. Are we really going to now be effected by the next best reason for the DP????
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMUMost people are [deleted]
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMU
Yes.
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMU
Isn't that the main reason UNC had those classes?
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMUI have to admit - I really don't care if our football or basketball athletes go to one class except for eligibility.
Everyone justifies our Ron Meyer sins as just taking what everyone else does a step too far.....well isn't that what UNC did? "I think Couchem is right."

Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMU
I doubt you were around back then or know much about anything including SMU or Ron Meyer. FYI: under coach Meyer and Collins SMU had the highest graduation rate in the SWC. Additionally, we had no mickey mouse majors excepting the communications arts degree (i.e no physical education major or kinesiology or sports "medicine" dedgrees) like so many of our SWC brethren did at the time. Some smart cookies on those teams. Dickerson in particular and a certain physician who posts regularly to this board. Playing football and an education were not mutually exclusive events when the program was at its peak. You probably are the type that would not care whether a kid gets an education or not.
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMUStanford and Notre Dame get those smart types. Always wondered why we can't go for those type of kids.
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMUIf this killed Mack to SMU then that is stupid. Unless, we know that he was the architect of the scheme.
But I kinda agree with Couch'em, I couldn't give a flip about the so-called academics as it relates to the athletes in the big time college sports. I wish all NCAA athletes in Basketball and Football could have the option of taking classes as Pass/Fail and if they do, maybe give them some kind of Associates Degree or other certificate. And if they want a full fledged UnderGrad degree then enroll in the same programs available to the rest of the students. I know that sounds like dumbing it all down, and it is, but at least those athletes would still be getting an education, and hopefully broadening their horizons a bit without having to cheat to stay in college. I just don't think a lot of the top athletes are cutout for the real rigors of college, and it is just a shame that they are ostracized or excluded from that pipeline that can lead them to sports riches in the professional ranks. Beat the hell out of anybody!
Re: UNC scandal killed Mack to SMUThey should be able to major in their sport. Done. I was able to major in a performance degree, why can't they? Bachelor of science in sports performance. Bam. 30 hours of liberal arts plus 90 hours of performance and sport theory.
