I don't care about common opponents when there is a head-to-head matchup to look at

I'm not talking common opponents. TCU lost to a higher ranked team. That's how it works. If Baylor had lost to SMU would that be worse than losing to Alabama? I'd say yes.

TCU loses this week.

Seriously though, if TCU and BU both win out, how does TCU get in ahead of BU? Baylor beat them and would be Big 12 champs - that would make zero sense

Of course, two SEC West teams + FSU + Oregon could shut out the B12 all together

TCU trumps Baylor by virtue of their larger margin of victory against SMU...undoubtedly those with a vote pay attention to the SMU effect.

Notre Dame lost to a higher ranked team than did TCU. Check out that relative ranking.

I for one AM happy for the frogs. It will only create a fire under the seats of the BOT & RGT on acting on our Situation.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Not sure that will happen unless TCU also starts to close the gap between us on overall university rankings. Like I have said before, evidently TCU's BOT gets it...not so sure about ours.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

KState wins and all the froggies spend monday crying that they are out of the playoff system. Wonder if phelps will come down to picket the game with the shear amount of dudes in purple attire.

Aren't they closing that gap now?

I brought this up in another thread, but I have a much more pessimistic view than some regarding TCU closing the gap. It is only a matter of time before they leverage their football success and Big XII membership to greatly improve their academic standing and potentially pass SMU in the rankings. Football success = more applications = more selectivity = higher quality students, many of whom will embrace the school spirit at TCU and become active alumni, season ticket holders, etc. This may not happen overnight but if both schools continue on their current trajectory it shouldn't surprise anyone when they become the premier athletic and academic school in the metroplex.

Anything that is good for TCU is bad for SMU.

We really need to make some noise over the next 3-5 years in basketball. Hopefully that will help, but I fear that this football season is negatively impacting the overall perception of SMU more than we realize. It will be a stain on the legacy of university leadership for the past three decades.

Thanks. That's a good summary.

Our next coaching hire is becoming more & more critical each day.

Not saying you are wrong at all, but how has all of the above worked out for OK St. and KS St. regarding overall universtiy rankings. They have had the benefit of the Big XII much longer than TCU has. For that matter Baylor has as well and they are still a good bit behind.
