I can see RGT's reluctance, from a fundraising perspective, but even if were just a $5 additional box to tick, I think people would. Make it a grassroots thing- maybe not steer the big fish to it, but make it a "value ad" or a voluntary fund. Bank it, let it grow, and hopefully it will take some of the strain off budgeting for athletics eventually.

Good point but if RGT or the board don't start the endowment - they don't have the right to gripe about the deficits anymore.
