They are independent.

Can you refresh my memory on why it is soooooo critical
to try and keep terrible talent at SMU 5 years instead of 4 years?

Why not keep terrible talent at SMU 1 year instead of 4?

I thought I answered this-but-because "terrible talent" is NEVER asked back for that 5th year. Its OPTIONAL-and the optional 5th year is never granted to "terrible talent". There is no right to a 5th year. We see this every year with the bench warming 4th year players who magically fade away from the program

On Pony Pride, you can look at every recruiting class. If you compare our current roster to our 2010 class, you will not find many players who don't get significant playing time. Heck, the team only has 13 seniors and that includes a graduate transfer and at least 1 walk on.

Redshirt Seniors: Pope, Greenbauer, D Thompson, Bordano.

So some of these guys on "Senior Day" after the final home game with their parents
down on the field getting roses and tearfully hugging the head coach...
the guys we have hardly ever heard of, much less hardly ever seen play....
none of those guys are ever true 5th year non-injured seniors?

speaking of answering...did you answer my question to you
about what is the number of current freshman being redshirted this year?

Don't burn anyone's redshirt unless we need to.

How do you diplomatically do that without alienating
certain folks as others have referred to in this thread?

So it is better to tell a kid that he sucks and we want you to get out of here as soon as possible so we are going to play you one play and ruin your football future, than to tell the kid he would have a better chance to succeed with football at another school.

You don't, so stop trying. June obviously tried it and it blew up in his face. Failed drug tests, failed classes, voluntary transfers and graduations will open up our 25 spots.

Hindsight being 20/20, maybe somebody should have seen the red flags and realized that Jones was a liar from the start:

Jones emailed a statement to the media (lord knows he likes to manipulate the media) that a few student athletes didn't adhere to department policies ............. only to acknowledge a week later that some of the players had not violated any specific team policy.

Words in my mouth alert!!!!....I never said our coaches should say that.
Why do you feel the need to embellish to make your argument appear stronger?

mrydel wrote:out of here as soon as possible

4 years instead of 5 is hardly "as soon as possible".
And we can still "run them off" even earlier if needed like June & so many other coaches do.

Don't a lot of new coaches run players off when they take over
or is this something unique to June Jones?

Read your OWN LINK to June's attempt at 'running players off'!!!!

You can't run players off for no reason without backlash and consequences. June tried, he failed, what don't you get?

We will have our 25 spots available by graduations, voluntary transfers, and misfits who fail drug tests and classes. What more do you want? The rest of the argument is moot.
