Re: PSU Almost Got Death
Whatever. They always say after every major case that the school involved was "this close" to the DP. The said it about Alabama football 12 years ago, Baylor basketball when the Bliss program imploded, and I think they've said it at one time or another about OU, Miami, etc. The bottom line is that everyone "almost" gets the DP. . .no major program since SMU actually gets it.

Re: PSU Almost Got Death
PSU was told that if they didn't pay into the NCAA's fund, they would receive a 4 year death penalty. That's not new info and it's very available publicly.

That pedophile school should have gotten the dp. I don't understand how anyone with a soul could root for that organization

Yes & I don't understand how their sentence or penalty could be shortened but then again...
So hypocritical but not surprising.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Re: PSU Almost Got Death
I love this whole concept that another school was close to getting the death penalty. Give me a break.
Its time to just admit that the death penalty will never, and I repeat, NEVER be used against another D1 program regardless of the infraction. PSU was the very definition of "lack of institutional control" to the point of the systemic cover up of child sex abuse for over a decade. If that isn't worthy of the death penalty then nothing ever will be.

Back off Warchild seriously.

They allowed a pedophile to @@@ rape children in their locker room.
They deserved to have their entire Athletic Department from IM's to the golf team shut down.

Re: PSU Almost Got Death
Yes, if institutional inaction allowing the raping of children isn't worthy of the death penalty, then frankly, the NCAA really does need to get out of the enforcement business. And don't give me that "NCAA has no authority" stuff. PSU very definitely got and maintained a competitive edge with the income they brought over years of this nonsense, benefiting the school and the other programs as well. It was very definitely a competitive advantage, if for no other ethical or moral reason to throw the book at that program. That even goes beyond UNC's nearly complete detachment of athletics and academics- you know, that whole student athlete thing. It's even worse than the Miami stuff the NCAA botched. They have not just lowered the hurdle they have effectively removed it. If any major program (including us) is ever caught with any violations, all their lawyers need do is point to those three incidents.

Re: PSU Almost Got Death
We got the death penalty because we eventually cooperated with the ncaa about basically paying 3-16 players' rent.
Psu quietly housed a defensive coordinator/serial child molester for a decade or more and they're already back in a bowl.
