I have never rooted for SMU to lose no matter what it may mean as far as a coaching change is concerned or any other reason. My hope is that Bennett and the team will get it together and win some dang games. Give him a 2 point conversion chart and we will be set.

I think the point is that all these sunshiners, who had finally given up last week because we are so bad, suddenly think we're great again because we almost lost to UAB and barely eked it out on a hail mary end of game play. It's fun to watch them blow with the prevailing winds.

Think the point isn't that the so called sunshiners are chanting about us being great...but that the win was a positive step.

Fact is that we have gone to the well too many times with the story of a new coach and a come build the future story for recruits. We need to try something different and win with the coach we have now. Its really simple. The more wins we get this year, the better we look to a recruit. Recruits aren't stupid and they realize that very few of them will take a 2-9 team to a bowl the next year. But in the same breath, a 5-6 team could be a play or two away from being 6-5 and bowl eligible.

As for Bennett, don't think he hurts us or helps us, but unless we are prepared to go get a big name coach, probably be worse for us to try and shuffle up the program again.

Based on the fact that I root for the Ponies every week, whether we're playing the #1 team or the #1,001 team in the country, I would guess that makes me a "sunshiner" by your definition. Whatever. With that said, I didn't see anyone call this team "great," and I have yet to see any declare that "all is well." Instead, it seems to me that naysayers are hacked off that the team showed some juevos and hung in there and pulled off a great win.

And you're right, jtstang, we almost lost to UAB. Almost.
Do you think they're discounting their loss to SMU because they "almost won"?

Of course not. We beat UAB. These guys played with a lot of heart and deserve every pat on the back they're getting this week.

(And this should sting a little....) Congratulations to Romo, Sturdivant and McMurtray for their Player of the Week awards, and to all of the Mustangs who helped them earn them.

Beat ECU!
