Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a ha
Seems pretty simple - especially Nlemchi is playing. Make the D stop it - relieve pressure on his the passing by slowing down the rush. Maybe run some option. My god, what is so hard about that? Should have had that stuff on the table as soon as June left the building. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and

Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a hayeah but doesn't the zone read usually involve at TE, HB (sometimes lined up right between G/T) or sometimes a second back

Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a ha
Not to throw some facts into the discussion but... 1) It tok June about 6 weeks to adjust his offense. Two years ago, 6 weeks to adjust to GG not going to through progressions and install a zone read to take advantage of his mobility. Last year, about 6 weeks to move away from the horizontal passing game to a vertical one to spread the field. People tend to forget that Morris was essentially demoted from playcalling mid season and we went away from the horizontal stuff. Anyway, 6 weeks is still way too long to make an adjustment that should happen before the season even starts, but I wanted to throw that in there. 2) it makes it even more crazy not to have the zone read for Davis, because we know it was installed 2 years ago for GG. Not to break that back out seems a bit silly.
Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a haTwo years ago, we moved on outside guy inside (forget who) and then installed a zone read for GG. Don't know why the same couldn't be done with Gaiines and the Duke transfer.
Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a hai mean really - what do we have to lose.? Get your best athletes on the field in whatever way is required. Make up a line up to get them on the field and lets give it a go.
Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a ha
During the GG years, the best results were the result of moves away from the RnS. As soon as Gilbert left, he tried to revert back to the tire, obsolete offense. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a haI think it's surprising how long it takes some coaches to realize who is good and how they can be most successful.
These coaches' full time job is evaluating and scouting players yet it seems to take half the fking season until they figure anything out. I truly believe alot of coaches are in too deep and can't see the forest through the trees. Maybe that consultant could have told them this in week 3.
Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a haLike I've said all along, worst combined staff in D1

At both coaching and talent evaluation. Way too many scholarships given to kids who have no business playing D-1 football. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Peruna is my mascot!

We have a tight end - we just don't use him, which is another thing that sticks in my craw. An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and

Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a haA really good TE I might add.
Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a ha
I give Mason a tremendous amount of credit. He has tried virtually everything in every aspect of the game to change things. I was in Dallas for the Cincy and Memphis games and was amazed at the number of kids that got playing time as the staff continually gave a chance and searched for kids to make plays and earn playing time. This staff has not been passive really trying to shake things up. Problem is that they have had to do everything on the fly and somewhat within the framework of what they inherited. Tough to make drastic changes in the middle of a season with so many untested kids. Under JJ many of these kids would never have had a chance or gotten off the bench. Mason has given them a chance.
Re: DMN: Has SMU's quarterback carousel finally come to a ha
Using a TE in the redzone is an obvious move that Junesus should have done years ago. To make that simple change, the staff borrowed a DE. Smart coaching. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
