Proud Alumni! "The Never Say Die Mustangs!

Postby Bo 17 » Mon Oct 10, 2005 9:00 pm

I am so pumped having just watched the last play again from the SMU website. It brought back many memories for me. Way to go Mustangs you have done an amazing thing! Way to never give up and keep that tradition alive at SMU. SMU Mustangs have always been known through the years as a fiesty team that never gives up and you proved it once again!

Thanks,

Bo 17

It very much remindedme of that night. I think our guys did a heck of a job. One of those magical moments that you think you may never see again and then it happens one more time. Mustangs just got it like that!!!!!

For those players, players' parents and young alumni students on this board:

When the great Michael Bowen speaks about the heart shown by the Mustangs, he's worth listening to. He signed with SMU, went to Georgia during the DP years and came back for his senior season. Here's a guy who played WR and returned punts, wasn't that big, wasn't a burner of a sprinter, but the man was as tough as any player I've ever seen in the red and blue. I remember seeing some Longhorn (I think -- maybe it was against Arkansas or A&M .... whoever it was was a hell of a lot bigger than #17) blast him like a bird that got in front of a train, and Bowen hopped up like he hadn't been touched. And of course, he was the emotional leader (or at least one of them) for the 1989 team. He'll always be remembered as the man who caught the winning touchdown in The Miracle on Mockinbird. Bowen epitomized the characteristics he's describing in his posts here. If he sees those qualities in our current Mustangs, then those qualities are there.

Hey Bo, come back to Dallas for a game!
