I would have to believe someone did for the pros but to another college would be unusual I suppose.

well technically Art Briles graduated from Texas Tech but he played for UH for 3 years. His parents were killed in a tragic crash on way to SMU/UH game in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl. Then he transferred back and graduated from Tech but didn't play football

The announcers said USF's coach played at Western Kentucky. He left that coaching job for USF.

Why would we not interview him if he was so obliged? Always worth talking with someone like this.

Mullen is going to get paid by Miss St. he isn't going anywhere. similar situation to Fatterson. he got FREAKING MISSISSIPPI STATE to #1. yeah, they lost a game, and may lose to ole miss, but state gets the same amount of money from the SEC as FL. they'll throw WHATEVER it takes to keep him. he will be paid, and i know folks in starkvegas. he's already a deity - it wouldn't surprise me if there's a statue erected after this seasons. if he went to the Gators, he's on the chopping block from day 1.

Freeze may move. that's the only one of those top guys I see making a move. but i doubt that too.

morris wants to be back in TX.

Actually, I've analyzed Mississippi State's budget and, unless the SEC Network pays off BIG TIME this year, they can't afford to keep Mullen if someone with a deeper wallet comes calling.

They just opened a new addition to their stadium which is a good thing... except for the fact that the debt service on it is going to cost them close to $1 million more than it generates in revenue (I've actually analyzed the bond issue and compared it to the potential revenue - it's not self-funding).

They also already operate on the smallest published football budget in the SEC at $15 million... the next smallest published football budget in the SEC is Ole Miss at $25 million.

So, unless there is a major increase in distributed revenue from the SEC, Mississippi State won't actually have the money to pay Dan Mullen a whole lot more than he's making now... and that's before you consider the on field factors: They lose almost every major contributor other than Prescott (who won't be going pro because he won't get drafted... he won't play quarterback, if anything, in the NFL).

I just read on ESPN that UF will not pursue Mullen.

But Holliday at Marshall sure makes sense:

Interesting That Miss St. budget is as big as ours...aren't we in the $15M-$18M range for football, compared to TCU's $35M? Not sure if our budget includes scholarship costs (if it does then it makes sense and Miss St has more funds than we do although in absolute terms ours is bigger) but if it doesn't then they are doing way more with the same amount than we are.

Is that deficit temporary or fixed until the debt is retired?

I do know traditionally MSU's budget has been the smallest in the SEC. Addtionally, their stadium wasn't much bigger than Vanderbilt's for a long time. The only program in the SEC they have a winning record against is Vandy, and I remember my high school alma mater having a larger endowment then them in the late 90's, early 2000.

What Mullen has pulled of their is nothing short of a miracle.

Further proves that a coach is probably one of the most, if not the most important investment a program can make.

Not sure if this the right thread or not but SMU athletics, ponyfans.com, is just beyond depressing. THE BAD NEWS JUST WONT STOP. It seems like a never ending stream of "breaking news, recruit decommits, player ineligible, player rather play in china, football team sucks, coach not interested in smu job, basketball team overrated...........when will this end???? Everyone on this site including myself is mentally sick.
