And said they wouldn't have called it. For what it is worth Micheal Irvin did that about 500 times in his career.

I think it was PI by the books, but I also understanding them not calling it at the end of the game. If JR had been stronger he would have been able to stay with him and not lose his balance. A strong CB doesn't get sent 4 yards in the opposite direction on a small push.

I get enough of this talk after every Arkansas loss. Lets just let it go. We should have never been in the position for them to have the shot they had. There were 20 plays before that one on the last drive alone, including 3 4th downs that would have ended the game.

it was a penalty and should have been. to not do so was cowardice by the official.

It all happened pretty quick, but it looked to me like the ref was watching Davis and had his shoulder/back to the receiver when the ball was in the air. When the ref turned to look at the receiver, Richardson had already been pushed and was in the process of closing on the receiver. Props to USF, as the timing of that would have made Michael Irvin proud, but definitely PI. No question.

You hate to see poor officiating steal a win, especially when we were in such desperate need to win one. But as another poster pointed out, we should never have let USF come back.

I agree it was PI. But 99 of 100 refs don't throw the flag in that situation. I think a case can be made the refs could have thrown the flag on us earlier in that series as well.
The 1 of 100 was the ND-FSU game.

the nd-fsu was offensive pass interference on essentially a pick play by the te. almost never called in that situation but this was completely different. this was purely a one on one situation where the wr knoced the db 5 yards off the play.
if you are not going to call this play why even have refs on the field.

That is definitely offensive pass interference. That is a judgement call that referees can't seem to get a grip on and are inconsistent, especially at the end of games. I see it even more in the Big 12. It is going to end up costing TCU a place in the playoffs and undefeated season in their loss to Baylor with the no-call on 4th down and then the phantom pass interf against TCU. And then the next week BU gets it at WV. TT has lost games. Notre Dames pass interference call against FSU. All could have gone the other way and all are inconsistent judgement calls by the refs that are affecting the final 4 teams in the playoffs and in this case SMU. That needs to be a reviewable play in the last 2 minutes because the refs are getting it wrong.

I disagree on the ND -fsu interf call but am in the minority I know. The dbs are the ones who are putting their hands on the receivers first, the problem was the wrs did not turn and look for the ball to sell it. So if a rec releases and the db checks him with his hands and holds on then that should be pass int if the ball is in the air, it is not the wr responsibily to disengage unless he is trying to free himself to catch the ball.

Yes what you are seeing is much more physical DB play and WRs responding. Big 12 will end up being decided by inconsistent calling of PI. Baylor could have had 15 PIs against TCU but they weren't called. Then next week Baylor had 215 yards in penalties playing the same physical defensive coverage against West Virginia

What I wouldn't give to see any physical play by our DBs on the Hilltop

Yep you really notice it when we play Big 12 teams and their physical DBs take June's mini-mes completely out of the game. The one time they didn't TCU had a completely inexperienced secondary

We lost this game long before 8;45 left in the game and very much longer before the last play of the game. We had a chance to make it a 3 possession game and blew it. We needed one first down out of our last 2 possessions and blew it. We needed to make one stop on 4th and forever and blew it. All well before this play.

I also yelled at the refs, and then to myself generally that we should not have been in that position. I knew that missed field goal would haunt us...so close to a W.

Whether we should have stopped them many times before that play doesn't negate the fact it was interference.
