ECU Game Predictions

Postby DiamondM75 » Tue Oct 11, 2005 11:38 am

After nailing the UAB game, I am now posting my prediction for the ECU game.

SMU 31

ECU 17

Offense continues to improve and rested defense shuts down ECU.
Just send 'da money.

Considering UAB scored more points and gave up less against Rice than did ECU...

SMU 24

SMU - 27

ECU - 10

I'm looking for the defense to come up w/ some key turnovers that make the going a little easier for the offense. Strong showing by Romo, and the offense.

SMU ~ 30
ECU ~ 13

Romo, Martin, Chase and company give the Boy Scouts a reason to pop out the marshmallows and hot chocolate.

please don't take this the wrong way...

have any of you who posted here ever predicted a loss? i want us to win more than the next guy, and i believe we will win this, but 31-10? c'mon.

we've surprised 2 teams that were overlooking us - TCU looking to Utah, and UAB was celebrating before the game was over and they shouldn't have expected us to play as well as we did. anyone who's taken us seriously has beaten us handily.

Just playing devil's advocate since no one ever gets on here and says something like:
ECU: 13
SMU: 9
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

SMU 21
ECU 20

SMU goes for 1 leading by 5 and misses. They kicker throws a wounded duck into the enzone for a 2 point conversion and Givens catches it for his first reception of the season..

SMU 34 ECU 27

I do not see us holding ECU to much less. They will likely score a couple of long bombs.

I think that SMU can get to 34. Yes we have only averaged 17 but last season we were really low scoring until the last three games where we averaged over 30 and went from 256 yards per game to averaging 542. I expect us to click at some point. Hopefully starting last Saturday. :D

Speaking of bombs what was the deal on Saturday-we left at least 6 WRs running free in open space in that game. We got extremely lucky on several plays. That's really the first time all year we had so many breakdowns in the secondary downfield. I guess Texas A&M had a few but Texas A&M turned some short passes into home runs. I hear this Pickney kid can really throw downfield-we need to address that problem immediately.

On the other hand - no blocked punts, kick off returns for touchdowns, interceptions, blocked field goals, and only 1 missed extra point. Maybe we can go one game without any Special Team failures. Knock on wood.

That is TWO missed extra points. And the first time I have ever heard or seen a team purposely missed an extra point attempt (by downing the ball).

Arrrgh! Speaking of special teams, the Pirates have a very good punt returner by the name of Travis Williams (#8), and he is due. Watch out for him. The good news for SMU is that the Pirate kick coverage has been suspect all year. Our game should be an opportunity for y'all to bust one.

The strength on offense for the Pirates is Pinkney throwing the ball outside where we have plenty of speed. Our run game out of single back sets has not been good. However, when we go to the I-formation we have been able to move it on the ground.

On defense our strength has been our pass defense. We have solid d-backs and a good young pass rusher by the name of Marcus Hands (#92). We move him around a little bit so your two OTs better bring their lunch pails. We have a young DT that answers to Brandon Setzer. He is a good player that can clog up the middle and make plays. Our LBs are fast but have had discipline issues thus far. They tend to to wander out of their lanes which makes us susceptible to the cutback. The big runs we have given up this year have all come from cutbacks. With that said, #40 Chris Moore is a pretty darn good linebacker when he can keep his agressiveness under control.

It should be a good game. It looks like y'all are starting to get things turned around. I think our two programs are in very similar positions at the moment. I personally believe that SMU has tons on potential and will acheive great things if y'all stay patient. C-USA needs SMU. I happen to like Phil Bennent and believe that he has y'all headed for great things.

Both of our programs may be a year or two away.

My prediction for Saturday??? ECU 31 SMU 17

Pony "Bend don't break" D gives up 2 TD & 3 FG.

The offense puts up similar numbers as last week with a big K/O return:

SMU 27
ECU 23

they took the knee instead of kicking for a very good reason. If the extra point was blocked, it could be returned for a touchdown. then all our hard work would be for nothing and we wouldn't be on here talking about how great the game was.
