Do it, Stallion.

At this point, any attempt at marketing or brand expansion is a win. Mustang Mania was not a carefully crafted and intellectually savvy branding...it was mass, and it was wonderfully effective low-brow.

Start somewhere....oh, yeah, and win.

You got to get the brand out for sure. You also have to back it up with a competitive product. Hope we can do both. I am for anything that can tie SMU to Dallas and to Texas. I don't agree that most people know that SMU is in Dallas. Even some that live in Dallas don't know where in Dallas it is. Heck, I went to the SMU-Notre Dame game in South Bend back in 1986 and Notre Dame fans were asking where SMU was located. I responded Dallas, Texas. The reaction to the answer was like a deer in headlights. Branding is very important.

And for the Big D tie in, we could do something like Fresno St.

Both remain close to our traditional look.

That helmet looks pretty darn good-not as big as a fan of the D-maybe move that to the uniform. Its kind of like the V (for Valley on Fresno's helmet-most just wonder what the hell the V stands for). Doesn't the Star represent Dallas more than a generic D? Dallas is really what we want to brand though. Helmet could also be used on some T-Shirts-I'd buy it

And BTW we didn't "just win" in the 1980s. There was a nationally unprecedented promotion campaign of Mustang Mania which was outrageously successfull for a couple of years BEFORE we won. We never would have won without it because guys like Dickerson and James would never have committed to a school with 10,000 fans in the stands. The entire program was built around identifying SMU with Dallas. That's what Ron Meyer's strategy was. Hell that's what Larry Brown's strategy is. You think Jason Garrett and Tony Romo just wondered into Moody by themselves?

T-shirt idea if we use the D (an idea I've liked since mason tweeted it earlier this season):

Go Ponies
Give em the D

Not too crazy about messing with the uniforms and helmet, but why not do what basketball did with the court? Put Dallas Texas below the big red Mustang in the middle of the field. Every time we are on TV that will be seen.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I'll take a shot at it... but first, can someone give me a list of the 10-20 most iconic symbols of Dallas? Pegasus was a great start.

1. Pegasus
2. Reunion Tower / Skyline
3. JFK
4. Cotton Bowl
5. Oil
6. Lower Greenville
Please give me suggestions.

I would like this next uniform concept to be a clear reflection of Dallas.

The D could easily be replaced by the star or by a Dallas skyline.

yeah I like a Dallas Cowboy Star-that is the most iconic symbol of Dallas. Ron Meyer realized that SMU shouldn't try to compete with the Dallas Cowboys-SMU should draw synergy from them. I would put a small star on the outside of the sleeve on lower part of shoulder pad

I love the shoulder star idea. Very iconic.
Cue all the yankees complaining about associating with Dallas or Texas as low class.

Our endowment is not large enough to pay what Jerry Jones would charge his mother to use that star let alone us.

TCU doesn't seem to have a problem bringing 45,000 to their stands, and you don't see them worried about the cowboys at all even though they are closer to Arlington than we are.
