ACC Commissioner say realignment slowing down

Postby Oldmins » Wed Nov 19, 2014 10:34 pm

ACC Commissioner Swofford discusses the need to move to an eight team playoff instead of the current four team playoff, and in the course of the discussion talks about whether Power Five realignment is likely. Here's his quote, like it or not:

Swofford also said that he thinks realignment — at least among Power Five conference schools — is slowing down.

“For the next 12 to 15 years, I don’t think you’ll see movement in the Power Five conferences,” Swofford said. “Unless someone grows and adds a team not currently in the Power Five, but I don’t think you’ll see any teams moving within it.”

So at least the possibility of adding a team nor currently in the Power Five...

Big 12 needs 2(?). They will take them after they get shunned from playoff

Translation: We all want to expand but we can't get any of the schools we want so none of us are going to expand.

I think notre dame is the only school anyone may really want. If I were b12, I would take houston and ucf purely from a football/market perspective.

The Big 12 won't make any money from adding G5 members, if any were worth something they'd have been added already. Once the title games get deregulated the Big 12 will be able to have one with 10.

Yeah I guess the b12 members 20mil+/yr until 2025 makes adding new teams not so important.

The only G5 teams that might jump to the Big XII would be FSU, GT. I can't imagine any others leaving. No one will leave the SEC. No one will leave P12 or B1G. That leaves the ACC and Big XII. WVU has to be wanting a travel partner, but the Big XII flipped the bird at Louisville and BYU. Pitt just joined the ACC. There is nothing between Texas and WVU except Memphis, SMU, Tulsa, Cincy and Houston. All of whom are not on the Big XII menu. I could see if things don't shake out soon that WVU would get antsy about being an outlier in the Big XII.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
