As for LB: it's got to be incredibly frustrating to lose Mudiay to the pros. When he signed, I'm sure LB thought he was on his way to the Final 4 and immortality. Nothing in his experience could prepare him for a recruit turning pro. It's so out of the ordinary that he must have been crushed. Now MK has to sit. And he gets blown out by Gonzaga and loses to a sub par IU team. So he is frustrated and yes I feel his pain. If he stays 5 years then I say hewas fulfilled every expectation.
As for Footballdad: His assertion that he should have investigated SMU more before allowing his kid to sign. Um..... BS. He was likely one of many who didn't have any other offers and the choice was a free education with a lame duck coach or pay full freight somewhere else. Easy decision. Only question is why all the hate for a place that is giving his kid a free education. A kid that has no professional football future and who should be thanking the good Lord that SMU is giving him a free education.

When asked about Markus, listen to what Larry says at the 6:30 mark.
You can tell he is so disgusted with SMU, literally shakes his head. If this same situation plays itself out again a time or two, you can bet Larry will have had enough and he'll be gone. At the end of the day, Larry doesn't give a sh*t about SMU, he cares about his players and winning. (which is fine by the way)
Not sure I agree with you. Recent articles point out that LB is very worried about his alma mater UNC and their grade/cheating scandal. He is concerned about the athletes who got the grades, the reputation of his university and the reputation and legacy of Roy Williams. My take is that he has put so much time and energy into SMU that he is disappointed in MK who failed to tend to business and has let everyone down. Yes, SMU could probably have twisted arms and cheated out academics to keep MK eligible; instead SMU maintained it's academic integrity and MK will have learned an even more important lesson that HE is responsible for his actions and they impact on a huge number of other people and interests. Probably the most important lesson MK will ever learn.

So what do you think LB meant by "We're SMU, we do things a little differently."

You say MK transferred from Nova so you would assume he knows what's expected of him. Here is an alternative take on this. Maybe he simply assumed the school would take care of him, just like Nova did, just like all the others schools who recruited him promised they would as well.
I was a student during the Pony Express days. I knew a girl who 'tutored' some of the FB team. In her own words, 'I do their homework, I write their papers, and when possible, I take their exams'.
That's entirely possible and in fact probable; my question then would be: is SMU prepared to go down that path (again)? If so, then so be it and let's get it done. If not, what are the ramifications of that decision? What's the middle ground between the "academics at all cost" approach and the UNC model and where does that put us? And perhaps more to the point, what promises did we make to LB (and JJ and/or the next FB coach) in this area and to what degree have we delivered or are deficient in making good on those promises?

Hilarious how much his 'free ride' bothers you.

As for Pony81, you should probably get together with EastCoastMustang and wipe each others tears over the 'free ride' that bothers you so much. Must both be recent grads with tons of SMU student loan debt! Free education my a*s. Very obvious you've never been a division 1 athlete. Keep hating ladies.

I guess it's to late now ashes everywhere.
yeah you're right, it's not 'fare' ?????? Plenty of CURRENT player parents absolutely trying to burn down the June Jones debacle. As an X PLAYER parent you should just mind your own business. Let me guess, you were probably one of the moronic Jones cheerleaders who still support him to this day? If so, you were part of the problem we will now spend years trying to fix.
If your son is on the team, you and your son are part of the problem we are now trying to fix.

The problem was sh*t coaching and recruiting. You can hardly hold that against a kid who did nothing more than accept his only d1 offer. Geez.

This thread sucks. SMU admin has always been a joke. Larry tried to get so good so fast, thinking he could get anyone to play, cause he's LB. They attracted a ton of players, all mostly the same in terms of style and skill set, and overextended and were sloppy everywhere. Our staff is very talented, but b/c Larry is so old and their window in tiny, they leave a trail of dirt. We're flying to close to the sun, so we grabbed a '15 class that is academically very solid.
Understand this! I told you two years ago that Markus Kennedy couldn't compete academically at SMU and he can't. For those lamenting Mudiay, wait till that true story comes out. For those that wanted Frazier cause he's local, cause you guys have a hard-on for locals, worst move in 10 years

Who said Mudiay decided to go pro? There is a big picture here that most of you either aren't looking at, or don't have enough knowledge to connect the dots. I'm not being message board vague for fun, but give up the minutia. There is a lot going on w/this program right now, and only some of it is ne the court
