as for Bus' 6 commitments-heck I can't even find 4 more(other than the 2 known commitments) who are even leaning or favoring SMU. I doubt if anyone on this board that can name a quality recruit leaning to SMU. I'm sure there are kids favoring SMU but I'm pretty sure most are flying under the radar. If I'm wrong please list here __________, ___________, ________, _________. We've seen where that gets us. On the bright side if we can win 4-5 games including at least 2 against bowl teams then you will give Bennett are arguable selling pitch that there is tangible improvement in the program which will help this year and next. I've often stated one of the most important victories in Ron Meyer's tenure was a 35-31 victory over Arkansas in the season finale in a 3-8 season. It gave tangible proof to back up Meyer's sales pitch. Jtstangs' retort to follow.

Well, obviously, no one is suggesting Bus is making stuff up. He gets it from someone in the know. He usually is right with his (limited) info. Whether that someone in the know is exagerating, that is another question.

Yep, that is it.
I just did not want to say that.

SMU IS better .

Bigger
Faster
Stonger

Hey stallion of St. Marks

Compare this team with the team PB inherited and you should see the improvement.

This could not even practice due to lack of depth back then.

First team O practiced against 185 pound D linemen.

Face it - We ARE BETTER. Yes I ment that to be forceful.

It's simple. That's a huge "if." This team is the same team that lost to Tulane in spectacular fashion. I hope you're right, though.

whatever u call it - flukes or whatever -

we now have had opps to wins games we weren't even close to when we were with the WAC -

that's 2 possible wins due to whatever play or plays when last yr & yrs past it was the whole d&%n game we had NO chance to win -

to me, we may now be turning some of that corner we've been trying to do for so long -

may be we are now actually improving?

are we?
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

BUS I guess that's where we diverge. I analysize teams and recruiting based on what is needed to build championships and bowl games-apparently you're satisfied with "better"

Ron Meyer stated that the most important games to win for recruiting were the first, the last , and the one against your biggest rival. We lost the first but I think made up for it with TCU. If we could end the season with a win against UTEP it would open some eyes and bring in some kids. Problem today is, and I do not remember it being this way in my days or even Ron Meyer's days, is that the kids are committing so early. It seems to my recollection that players used to wait until the end of the season after all the games had been played before any serious committing was done. Maybe I am wrong on that but it seems that most of the high quality recruits have already committed and we are not half way thru the season. I was the last signee at SMU when I chose them, but I was far from a highest of quality recruit. I did not make any visits or receive any offers until the season was already over.

SMU's days of "building championships" are long over.

Correct point made T21.

Stallion just wants a budget to buy players NOW. No getting better, no building, just instant gratification.

NO, I am not happy where we are but I am not going to be one to drag the wagon into the ditch.

Help, Pull, give money, write to Turner or get off the road.

Given how slow the turnaround has been on the Hilltop, hard to say any gratification is "instant". How many more 2-3 win seasons do we have to have? The simple fact is that TCU is doing something that is enabling them to have winning seasons, win bowl games, beat top 10 ranked teams, be ranked in the top 25 and yet somehow, SMU can't even sniff a winning season. It's the model that needs to be fixed!!!!!

Fix the model, get rid of the losers running the athletic department, and the wins will follow. Period. End of story.

Well said Ponysnob. Institutional CHANGES.

Some have and more will happen.

I think the word is progress, and remember one thing. The Ponysnobs and Stallions, of the board, are right about changes... but those changes will only happen if you get involved and bring your ideas to Mr. Turner or one on the Board of Trustees.

Be a part of the answer!
