Can someone remind me how we let him and his recruits get away? Was he not considered valuable enough to match whatever he is getting at UCLA? The Bruins have improved markedly since he arrived in Westwood.

IIRC tiki wanted him to leave. I think he was getting too much attention and tiki didn't like being upstaged.

Klemm lost all his credibility with recruits here after the ASU snafu. Once you start recruiting all your guys to another school, only to have to say just kidding, it's only going to make you look bad.

JJ wanted him out, but it was in his best interests to move on to restore his value.

He has been there how long? UCLA is known for bad OL play.

He only recruited for about a year and a half here but at least he went after some good players like Gottschalk. He got some good ones at UCLA also Corso.

You are correct. One recruit even said that whichever way JJ goes he would follow.

If I recall, June called Klemm, told him ASU was a go, Klemm relayed that to recruits, and was apoplectic at June when it fell through due to the immense loss in credibility it could cause him as an actively recruiting assistant* coach. After that, the professional relationship was over.

I believe June told some recruits that himself.

All of the above may be true. But basically if Klemm was going to stay, we were going to have to name him OC and Assistant Head Coach. We didn't, and he left.

Ironically, we were protective about the labels at that time, but by the time June resigned I think we had 9 assistant head coaches and three OCs.

Was at USC-UCLA game yesterday and stayed at UCLA team hotel. Saw Klemm sitting outside at hotel but didn't look like he wanted to be bothered. Otherwise I would've said something.
