EWU ain't that bad

Granted they only have an outside game, but it can be pretty special. Have many that can handle the ball and drill 3's. Bet they beat a few decent teams this year. The miniature Vlade Divac was interesting to watch.

we should've won by at least 20 points especially considering we were playing at home. They missed a TON of open looks behind the arc.. on another night they would've beaten us. Not to mention they left 8 points at the charity stripe. The frustrating thing is that going into this game we knew that they were going to shoot a lot of threes and we still didn't close their shooters down quick enough.

Defending the Arc isn't something we do right now. Concerning to say the least

Arkansas will exploit that.

What is most frustrating is there doesn't seem to be any improvement defending threes and we are already four games in.

Everyone else has; I'd say it's expected.

Why is that, technically? Are we so focused on interior defense that we're not stepping out to meet a guy about to jack a three?

The point guard they had (Tyler Harvey) did a lot of step back moves to get open for 3's. He was defended well but made those quick step back move that are almost impossible to guard against.

arkansas beat us with the 3 last year. Im guessing larry noticed that. I would guess we might see more of that guard heavy rotation.

Arkansas does not win with the 3. They win with relentless pressure and transition in forcing turnovers. They will shoot the 3 but they prefer getting the ball inside on a fast push down the court. Against Wake Forest, they were close in score and within one minute of game time forced 4 turn overs and were 10 points up and never let up or looked back. We need to be able to handle the press and work a half court offense to slow them down. When they cannot run is when the are most vulnerable.

Yeah - and no high-fiving at midcourt while the other team is moving the ball down for a wide-open three.

Because LB is an advocate of over help defense on the interior. His defensive philosophy is outdated with the current era of basketball.

I love LB and what he has done for the program but he needs to refine this or else the good shooting teams are going to destroy us from the arc.

As Mustang22 pointed out in another thread that some of those 3's were contested. They just made them.

I beg to differ. We were especially good at defending 3s in the 1st half. They actually missed
25 3s in the game - mainly because we were jumping out at them. The 3s they hit were
mainly when they threw to the post and then back out to a guard on the other side. Their
star - No. 1 - did not hit a 3 pt shot until the 2nd half.

mrydel - they were very heavy on 3's last year when we played them - might have been what they had to do since we were full strength inside - but i do recall it rained on us for a good while from outside.
