maybe we could focus on some kind of waiting list plan to get excess tickets into student hands when season ticketholders have extras-I'd love to see that

Was thinking that at the game Stallion - if we could have some type of bank that would be great

What I am saying is I don't care who is down there, but the point system has clearly not allowed the rowdiest ones. I will give them one more game after the Thanksgiving break, because some kids may have been gone this time. But, my money says all of these kids may have the most points, but are (as Smerkins said) definitely "soft".

I'm positive nobody cares about "letters on tv" - but for whatever reason the points system has yielded, what I at least consider to be, a timid student section as compared to pretty much any game last year.

Let's all be honest - it sounds great in theory to get points attending a volleyball game but it means nothing as to how loud you are gonna be at a men's bball game.

You're right but I'm sure the admin is worried about some liquored up student next top blue hair.
Might be a bad mix.
But it ,might work in sections that are heavy with young alumni.

The whole presentation of the game atmosphere feels different, not nearly the same energy. I am also remembering the last 4 games at Moody from last season which were:

Louisville
UC Irvine
LSU
California

Those games could definitely be considered outliers for atmosphere and energy.

Anyways, it feels like the magic in Moody is missing...

I think the difference so far is the fact the first two games were against lower level non-conference opponents and last night's game was after most students have left to go home for Thanksgiving break. Even EWU was held when several students have left to go home early and Lamar was a blowout.

Last year Moody didn't open until 2nd semester more in the heart of the season. Hopefully things will improve as the season moves on. We need that energy.

It is too early for this thread, last year we had a polished team and marquee opponents which helps.

BUT- the frat section was clearly the loudest section last year and that element is missing. They were clearly the driving factor in the environment. However, I suspect this year the mob will improve as everyone gets more in sync with each other. It is unfortunate we are getting zero spirit leadership out of the "hub" of SMU spirit which looks like paid musicians hanging out. Does nobody go out for beers before the game anymore?

Overall this is a non-issue that will resolve over time

I counted 2-3 beers in the MOB section (Elf and Lobster included). Everyone else seems to be focused on their next Meadows dance recital.

Fill it with fraternities and the problem is solved....

This is an issue, no doubt about it.

Yup, no reason to dance around it honestly. I agree 100%. Filling it with fraternities fixes the problem but isn't fair. Don't know what the fair fix is, which sucks because I am leaning towards there really isn't one sitting here thinking about it. Maybe just straight up camping out would help? But, I feel like those same kids are going to make a night of camping out wearing matching PJs.

Am I wrong in thinking the MOB last year was nastier? They had to have been. And I remember all the games, I'm thinking of the walk-through ones as well.

The MOB was the same. It was the frat section driving the energy last year

Straight camp out was what it was last year. Everyone just used there pledges, so each fraternity was bringing in at minimum 20 guys to the games. This year there are a whopping total of 3 guys (including me) who have student tickets from my fraternity this year. Thankfully Im using my season tickets to get guys in to the stadium so we get 7 guys in for each game. However when only 7 guys are going the cool thing to do is watch the game at the house or barley. When 20+ guys are going to games then that is the thing to do and everyone is scambling for tickets.

I was very disappointed that only 3 of our guys had tickets, but I would not be surprised if other fraternities numbers are similar because I hardly recognize anyone in the student section. Yes last year it was a lot lot lot lot nastier. Curse words, slurs, calling out individual players, calling out individual coaches, etc. That's what happens when you get a bunch of 18-21 kids who are absolutely trashed going to games. This year its a bunch of kids who have never drank in their lives. (thats totally ok good for them) but the venom of last year is absolutely not there.

Last nights game I sat in front of a group of 6 girls who spent the whole time yelling at the SMU players about how hot they were and "dont worry honey your ok". That never would have happened last year.

This is on the frats. Work the system and you're in. Whenever Greeks have their act together they get whatever they want and overwhelm the student body.
I liked the rowdiness they bring, but if they think they're too good to stumble to Ford or Westcott during the fall and check in using that app, then they can only blame themselves.

100% agree with this. It literally took a minimal amount of effort and planning for a season worth of fun. But we are SMU, these are SMU students, everyone thinks they are entitled to things. Most of my buddies are actually legitimately pissed off that SMU is not just handing out tickets to the fraternities. Its dumb but we do what we do.

I'm with you both to a degree, but getting points for attending a volleyball/soccer (any non-revenue just picking on them) game is just dumb. I don't agree with that, and the effect it is having is obvious now. That is twisting the attendance bribe knife too much and that's just the truth. I am not saying I have the answer, but you have to pull it back to where that "certain" type of student isn't the only one who is going to the games.

Honestly, I don't blame kids for going to Barley to watch most of the games, and trying to scrounge up tickets for whatever games they can. Packed Barley is super fun to watch a game at and you haven't wasted a moment of your life sitting at a sporting event you couldn't possibly care less about. Obviously, it isn't Moody but as coloradostang said - if only 1 or 2 of your buddies can possibly go to the game with you, who cares?

I love SMU and especially SMU athletics - but I (and literally every other person I knew in college who enjoyed sports) was almost never going to go to anything besides a men's basketball or football game. I actually follow a few non-revenues and pull for them, but I have attended single digit events since I was 18. I am not going to lecture anybody for not wanting to go - even with this bball carrot dangled in front of them - and I suspect a lot of the people who scoff at the kids now never went to any while at SMU.

Again, I don't know what you do but I/SMU was wrong about the point system. Hasn't worked to bring the rowdiest student crowd to Moody, not even close.
