Re: My thoughts through 5 gamesNever hammered MK I simply said the grade situation is his fault and not SMU's. When the suspension happened pretty much there were two camps l. Onecamp a saying it was MK fault for not making the grads and camp b sayin SMU should cheat. Happy to be in the camp a. You don't need to cheat to have successful basketball harvad and Princeton can win tournament games, so does Davidson, so does standford, and cal, and Vanderbilt, and ND, and Georgetown ect.
Re: My thoughts through 5 gamesIf it came down to a history class for MK then it had to be Countrymen. I took him a few years ago and he made it very clear he could care less about SMU athletics
Re: My thoughts through 5 gamesAll I keep thinking about is, damn, I wish we had all those guards on THIS team THIS year (imagine that depth with Sed and Shake and even Jarrey).
And, damn, I wish I could see Tolbert and MK on the court together along with all those guards. That's a solid squad. But, sadly, I don't think we'll ever see that. We can still have a solid year, but need the team to have a "come to Jesus" type meeting and Yanick, Keith, and Nic have to step up and put this team on their backs (and seniors Ryan and Cannen have to start playing like seniors). Then, when MK comes back (if), get right back to it!
Re: My thoughts through 5 games
You very well might see that team. MK has another year of eligibility after this one (assuming he makes the grades). Even if MK is back on Dec 17th he might very well want another complete year to hone his skills for professional ball.
Re: My thoughts through 5 games
I wish, but I don't see it happening. I think school is torture for the kid. If he feels he can make money playing bball, he's gone and I wouldn't blame him. But I REALLY hope he comes back next year!
Re: My thoughts through 5 gamesCome on. There have always been athlete friendly profs and athlete enemy profs in every department. The football players certainly knew which Humanities profs to get when I was there in the dark ages. I have to imagine that every player is given a list of prof's who are not out to screw them. That said, sooner or later in your major there will be classes where you have no choice. In those classes, the athlete needs to make it a priority to work hard in that class, get study help, and not be afraid to ask other students to be study buddies. I used to study with lots of football player friends and that usually ended up helping my grades and theirs. I'm sorry but any athlete who does not make grades usually has only himself to blame. Most classes the biggest factor is just showing up for class. If you do, most prof's will cut you slack and in most classes attendance counts for a portion of your grade.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: My thoughts through 5 gamesThe only (and I stress ONLY) positive thoughts I had leaving that game last night were re:Yannick. A) I think it is quite significant that he put up 20 & 10 in a competitive game against a top 25 opponent. All of his big games to this point were against collections of midgets in Garland. B) I think I saw some signs of a mean streak (which would be VERY wecome) on a rebound/putback sequence late in the game, after which he got in the grill of an Arkansas player.
Other than that, the game was downright depressing. 1st half was the worst I've seen them play in the Brown era, and some of the worst college basketball i've seen period. Couldn't believe it was the same team i watched last year.
Re: My thoughts through 5 gamesIt takes both looking at stats and watching film to assess how a player performs, but just looking at the box score and not going over film at all (watched the last 75% of the game), why did Ben Emelogu play? He put up a bad walk-on stat line.
Re: My thoughts through 5 gamesThis team is playing not to lose. The seniors on last year's team had us playing to win.
That mentality changed the last 10 minutes of the game last night. It will be interesting to see if we can build on that and stay aggressive over the games between now and Michigan.
Re: My thoughts through 5 games
To hard to keep MK eligible for next year is what I am hearing. He would risk even more if he came back next year and were not eligible or got hurt. If he stays healthy this year and has a good season he needs to go. As a selfish fan I want him to come back even if he risks being ineligible again but that may not be what is best for him. #HammerDown
Re: My thoughts through 5 games
He has to be close to graduating though right? With this semester next semester and summer school couldn't he pull a 1 class a semester type thing?
Re: My thoughts through 5 gamesso true, i think he is more of a runner
Re: My thoughts through 5 gamesMy thought is the same big problem in football plagues this team...Turnovers. Turnovers kill in football and the sheer number of turnovers committed thus far by the MBB team kills. Turnovers limits the opportunity to score and increases the opportunity for the opponents to score. Arkyland and IU were huge examples of that. Limit turnovers and Moore looks better, chemistry improves and Frazier breaks out.
Re: My thoughts through 5 games
He might be further away from graduating than we think if not all of his credits transferred. Also I believe you have to be enrolled in at least 12 hours if you are not a grad students in order to be eligible to play. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown
