Next year, 4-5 games is a reasonable goal.
4-5 games is only a reasonable goal if Morris brings in significant upgrades to QB and both lines and provided we get a weak draw from the AAC East Division. Otherwise we'll lose 10+ games next year and there's no one on the roster that can prevent it from happening.
While they weren't great, the OL definitely improved during the season. Today, Davis caused sacks/pressure after he held the ball for 5+ seconds repeatedly. With good coaching, a good weight lifting/fitness program, and a better system, they can be adequate.
The key will be finding a QB that can be reasonably effective.

Pass protection got better as the season progressed but the o-line still can't run block. Morris is just a coach not a magician, there's only so much he can do with marginal talent. Morris is going to need significant upgrades there or his system will look pretty lousy (see Clemson's offense this season).
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security
I wonder if Morris will try to get Chad Kelly, JUCO QB who was dismissed from Clemson before the season. I believe he has offers from VT and Ole Miss, but if he wants a place where he's the guaranteed starter on day one and is familiar with the system, SMU could be in play. Of course, if you've watched any of VT recently you know that he could probably start there pretty easily too. They're abysmal on offense this year.
Here's my question: how much of the current problem is the result of an actual talent deficiency relative to the rest of the AAC and how much is the result of poor development, incompetent position coaches, and a lackluster S&C program?
