What if it were at least partially our fault that he sandbagged?
Like I said earlier, he has gotten sideways with the admin at his last two jobs. Who is the common denominator in those two situations? I will be very surprised if he gets another head coaching job.

Not our fault that he sandbagged (June did that all on his own) but it is our fault that we didn't fire him immediately for it.

I hear you and you're probably right. If he does get that job, however, it's probably the case that he'll succeed -- at least in the short term.

I guess the area coaches are wondering why he sandbagged on them and never hardly recruited there schools. JJ was recruited the best way he knew how and that was by watching tape not visiting the schools and building relationships with the HS coaches. Don't see how that was SMU's fault. Why bring this mess up now as we are about to hire a new coach? Did you sleep with Jones or something?

pboy- you keep saying that this was the admins fault. Please cite specific examples- no b.s or insuations- just plain verifiable facts. i.e. time, place, event, issue etc. If you can't do that then STFU.

LAM- I suspect that pboy is either one of tiki's family or a troll for his alcoholic agent.

5-32 (?) against teams with winning records 0-5 against service academies 0 nine win seasons 0 eight win regular seasons 0 conference titles 0 weeks in the top 25 1 division title 0 QBs that started and finished at SMU 0 top ten offensive finishes 1 win against Baylor/TTU/TCU/TAMU 4 bowl games (in an era where, now, 70 teams receive invitations)
And really why should you get credit for turning a program around when you burnt it to the ground and pissed on the ashes? He built the only win-less team in FBS this year. It is also, arguably, one of the worst football teams in the history of organized college football. The 2003 and 1989 SMU teams would likely wipe the floor with them. This is a collection of coaches that should be prohibited from getting within 500 feet of any organized football activities, because their mere presence is likely to do tangible damage to whatever football team is trying to better themselves. And he tried to get faculty hired at SMU to make his non-recruiting all the easier.
All while he's trying to actively obtain employment. He gifted 85 kids scholarships, assembled quite possibly the worst collection of coaches in the entire country, and then left them to drown, calling what he did here "miraculous," and trying to blame institutional issues for his appallingly steep decline. Unless RGT is hiding in the locker room cutting Achilles tendons and putting sugar in the gas tanks of all two assistants who recruit while confiscating every overhead projector in Ford, the mere attempt to deflect any blame by June is insulting on a very deep level.
He's a fraud. A charlatan. A washed-up relic from a bygone era who has no business getting another job.
And yes, SMU gets blame for not showing him the door, and for permitting boosters who have a personal bromance with June to dictate what's best for the program in the face of overwhelming objective evidence.
