Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...Planostang thinks Bennetts loss to NTSU was worse than the shellacking we took this year.

Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...
Not nearly as embarrassing as getting beat by 37 point by a UNT team that finished with just 4 wins on the year in the 7th year of a head coach. #HammerDown
Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...How anyone can defend June Jones after leaving SMU with its worst team in school history and in far, far worse shape talent wise than when he got here 7 years ago after hauling off about $15M is a monument to stupidity. The man literally nuked this program back to the stone age. God bless Chad Morris for taking on this disaster b/c I genuinely think a lot of coaches would look at the talent level here and walk away even with the stupid money we are willing to pay.
The really sad thing is the expectation level of so many SMU fans. There are a lot of you who view 6-6 seasons as a "success". There are those of you who look at June's 5-32 record against winning programs as not that big of an indictment on him or his system. There are those of you who think a season that ends with a bowl victory halfway around the world against a Mountain West team is a good year. What June did here was take a terrible program, build it halfway to mediocrity, and then subsequently nuke it back to beyond terrible. The man stole from this university for the better part of three years and there were people in positions of power that thought it was a good idea to give this man an extension. That, my friends, is the very definition of battered wife syndrome. Back off Warchild seriously.

More truthful were never spoken !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...I hold JJ in severe contempt. His actions since the ASU disaster have been deplorable. Walking out on these kids after two games is the very height of cowardice and tells the world exactly how much he cared about his players.
That being said, JJ's personality and strengths are very well suited to turning a program around. The problem really occurs for him is when he is done stabilizing the program, he is not suited to start a building process. He likes to use short cuts, like getting kids out of jail rather than building recruiting pipelines. Those short cuts are great for short term fixes and sometimes he gets the miracle of a Colt Brennan or a GG falling into his lap. To build a program requires a great deal of energy and the ability to sell, sell and sell some more. That isn't who JJ is. Last year I said my biggest fear was that JJ would retire for health reasons right before signing day leaving us with one of his staffers. I was wrong, leaving two weeks into the season was significantly worse. Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...
In fact he turned SMU around twice. The first time for the better, the second time to bring us back where we were before he got here. I care not what happens to him in the future, just damn glad he isn't here. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...I'm curious as to why anyone would say I'm defending JJ. Not heaping hatred isn't defending. Does he deserve hate? Maybe. I just care to avoid that drama. ALL I've said is that his system worked well twice and will probably work again. I might hire him if I were UNLV.

Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...
I think the system requires a couple of years to learn if you have the right QB, OL, and WR's. Couchem did a comparison and actually Rusty Burns offense scored more than June's. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...
I would absolutely hire him if I were UNLV. They won't do any better for what they can pay and June is more than capable of getting them a few mediocre bowl seasons (which they'll give him a lifetime contract for). They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...The phrase "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt" comes to mind.
Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...The system proved not to work. We got to a few bowl games in spite of the system, not because of it. If it worked we would not be where we are today.

Re: Alternative viewpoint. JJ's system actually works...Does ponyboy not remember that in '97 we were a win over 0-10 TCU away from a bowl game? And that under Bennett we were a 1st and goal conversion away from one? 6 win seasons are not meaningful markers of success. We were excited because it seemed to be trending up....for one season.
