What pony boy calls "amazing" most people would call average at best UH did well under June, but every other team was coming in off of a long flight and the competition was horrible. Any good team exposed them.
At SMU, we got into average bowls by eaking out 6 wins several times against CUSA competition. Any decent teams cleaned our clock. We won three bowls, one against a team whose coach abandoned them, the other against a Nevada team that had both their two good running backs suspended right before our game.
Excuses abounded - IPF, tutoring, mascot too small, lights in wrong direction. Never the real reason, lack of effort in recruiting.
Our head coach was wanted by nobody for 7 years. The only assistant that went anywhere (that June brought in) was the guy June didn't like -(Klemm).
No recruiting, ancient coaches, no effort and out of date system. UNLV would be bat [deleted] crazy to hire this old coot.

Actually, our defense early on had more to do with our winning a number of those games leading up to a bowl invite then the offensive scheme.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Yes he got smu to mid-tier bowl games, yes he got Hawaii winning again with a cupcake schedule. If they want 6-6 or 7-5 - he is their man. Is that the goal for most teams? He wont ever beat anyone good..unless its a Hawaii bowl where the teams seem to play better. UNLV might be the perfect place.
What "system" are we talking about? The R&S? Or just the June Jones mystique?
The R&S is no longer novel and is too easily defended by teams used to defending the spread.
The June Jones mystique is geared for middling short-term success, followed by self-destruction. June has alienated people at every job he's had for 25 years.

So I guess it did work! That's probably the only thing PF has come together on since the beginning of time. JJ's a community builder; he just builds it to universally despise him.
"I don't think anyone around the country has any idea how good we are going to be." - Coach Justin Stepp
Darn. June Jones is going to edge out Mike Cavan for the best win percentage by a third decimal. They both will be credited with a 39% winning percentage. I think Jones is about .002 better for 12 Million Dollars

Not if we tack on the last 10 losses of the 2014 season which he darn well earned. Time for an asterisk.

Isn't June's official record 36-43 (.455)?
